Hello everyone,
I just picked up a romanain ak-47 PARTS KIT that appears to be unfired:bash: . I was wondering, If i have the tools to bend the receiver, which flat would you go with? I've noticed there are several brands, and with or without trunnion holes. I've never put together an ak, But am looking forward to it. Also on the ak how many compliance parts do you need to be legal, (I"m to lazy at the moment to try to figure it from the atf list)I already have a tapco g2 trigger group, but what others are the norm, and whats the bare minimum you need? Thanks alot, Dan

On a standard AK, you'll need 6 US parts if you use a muzzle device or 5 if you don't.
I don't bend flats, I use manufactured receivers.

The Tapco trigger group counts as 3. Reciever either made yourself or bought from no-dakspud or similar counts as 1. Replace the muzzle device with a US made Tapco and your up to 5. US pistol grip or piston and you'll never have to worry about mags.
I went with a 100% receiver so I can't help on the flats.

Is there a benefit (besides saving the work) to going with a manufactured receiver? can a gun with a home made receiver ever be sold again? also If I bend the reciever myself can I just put the matching serial number as my parts kit on with made in U.S.A.? or do I need to make up a different #? thanks again! there are laws to be followed when making your own receiver if you plan on selling. Most folks who bend their own, cut 'em up and sell as a parts kit when they do sell. The thing is: if you bend your own receiver, mark it legally and sell it, and then do another one in 6 or 8 months, the gov't can get you for evading excise tax (not paying the manufacturers tax).
When you use a manufactured receiver, the manufacturer has already paid the excise tax on it.

NoDak is the way to go. $55 for the NDS3, if you figure out the costs of tooling and the flat it just didn't make sense to me to use a flat. If you decide to build and later sale, I believe you need to mark the receiver with your name and address. There may be a serial numer requirement too, but don't think so. Check the ATF website for the laws regarding the sale of homemade receivers.
