I have a moral question for you all. I bought a Yugoslavian SKS a couple of weeks ago. When I bought it, the Grenade sight was gone, the bayonette lugs were ground off, the barrel was hacked to just beyond the front sight post, removing the nice, pretty muzzle brake. Also, the wooden stock had been extended aft to lengthen the butt. After that, it had been sanded, and painted olive drab, I assume to hide the fact that not only had this person altered a perfectly good rifle; he had used a different kind of wood. I'm certain that with my current talents, I cannot restore this rifle to what it was meant to be. Therefore, I wonder if in a case like this it wouldn't be acceptable to go ahead and tinker with it in the name of boredom... I can't ruin it. It's already been done. My dream is to find the jerk who did this and paint his deer rifle neon pink...:nonono:

All depends on what your long term plans are I would think. Since the rifle is already in poor shape why not try to bring it back to life? If you screw something up by mistake, would someone really be able to tell?

I was in your boat a few months back. I bought three Mauser M24/47 barreled receivers. One was had some significant pitting on the receiver while the other two seemed to be in pretty good shape. I was able to clean / fill all but the deepest pits and decided to turn it in to a target rifle (expensive as I am also buying all the proper tooling to do it but figured I'd need it down the road any way when I restored the other two). The two remaining receivers have been stashed away for future restoration projects.

I agree with Hunter. It's not like it's rare or near stock now.

Well, I solved the problem by giving it a good cleaning, making sure it worked and giving it to my little brother. He loves it, and it is his first real rifle, I think, so I know it went to a good home. I still want to paint someone's deer rifle pink, though. I can think of nothing else that would piss Bubba off more than that. I did, however, see a pink "Hello Kitty" AR-15 furniture set, so maybe my idea isn't that original.

I highly doubt a neon pink or Hello Kitty stock would piss off Bubba. Who do you think came up with the idea? Paint his hunting rifle pink & he would probably let you marry his daughter/sister/mother/cousin.

with that said.. find the fabled SKS drum, one of those ventilated metal handguards and a DP cone shaped flash hider..
Then you can have a real 1950s era 'comic book' Commie weapon.

All you would need then is a fur hat, quilted pants and jacket and fur topped boots.

Hey now Norton, I put one of those metal handguards on my first Norinco SKS and I loved it!

She already picked out a little pink Cricket .22
I often thought that Hello Kitty would pwn an HK Mp5 or G3!
That'll go in my bin of patents on T-shirts.

Thread it for hider break whatever, find a TAPCO stock tech it out, might as well I think restoring it would be about as costly as a new rifle. I do think Centerfire has some barrels I think.... After that a stock would be easy. Either way its up to you sice its already screwed. I found a nice threaded Norinco and it has had the bayo lug removed completely I guess they knocked it off. Anyway I just can't buy it.. I don't know what type of heat or banging the barrel was subjected too and for $200 there are more Norico's out there.
