Has anyone here ever seen or done a stainless receiver for an AK? I'm thinking about making one from a flat template out of .015 304 stainless sheet.

You could do it, but stainless is not as tough as steel, in most applications, and also will have issues with trying to harden the piviot pins, they I imagine would be very soft.

just curious, what would be the advantage of using stainless for the receiver?

IIRC, parts of the receiver need to be tempered. Depending on what they use to make the steel 'stainless' the steel with have diff properties and may not harden at all. If nickel is used in it, it will be too soft. If chromium/vanadium are used in the stainless, the steel may be too brittle.

Also, as asked, why woudl you want to use stainless? If ya want it shiny, you vould electoplate chrome or nickel on...even copper...
