i got me a good cut bren mkii for $400 with 2 barrels at the gun show yesterday.
i built it just like the sticky. very easy and very thoughtfull. much credit to wise-lite arms!!!
i got about 10 hours into building this thing. the dam striker thing and the firing pin where a pita though.

Wow, that is truely awesome and in only 10 hours?!!?!

it might have been only 4-6 hours with the gun and the rest was monkeying around with the fcg.
this is the coolest gun i have built yet. i even talked to a ww2 vet at the show and he said he loved shooting the bren. major crowd gathered right when i bought it.

Sweet build! I have always liked the look of the Bren guns. Can't wait for the range report.

I wish WLA was accepting customer kits. They're only building on their own kits right now.

i dont really like the un even contact of the carrier to bolt in this picture. mine is very much even. huh?
i am battleing the striker right now to get it from light striking to heavy hitter. i think i am going to weld on some more steel to it.

so i fired off some rounds today in the snow. the dam thing wont cycle all the way back. just short about 1/2" of ejecting. even on the biggest hole of the gas block. the striker seemed to work fine on the soft points but the pof stuff barely dented the primer.
over all i am happy but need to spend some time getting it up and running better.

turbo I am impressed, You are the rebuild man! The fact you can rebuild a complicated demil and get it fire at all . Is a feat to me, keep us posted.

so this thing has 2 gas exhaust ports on the receiver. the first is a radial pattern around the bipod mount that is really close to the block and the other is a series of drilled holes in a square pattern that should more than enough to pass the gas.
well in my quick thinking i came up with the idea to block the first set of holes. i found a piece of dom tube that fits perfect, very tight fit. so now the gas block has a lot more to do with the action.
some pics of my genous.......
think it will work????

you don't think they built it that way for a reason?

sure it would work perfect but my government has told me to put extra springs and operations in it for mine and others safety. thank you.
but really, the added striker weight and firing spring have taken a lot out of the standard recoil of the weapon. i have to compensate....
i can always drill some holes in it too if it is too much recoil on the smallest gas setting.

Wow, that is impressive. That is going to be awesome when it is done.

Well done. The interesting thing about the bren gun is when you twist the gun on the bipod it scrapes out the gas system and "auto cleans" kinda fun design.
You making me drool turbo.....good luck getting it to run

so i whipped out a pistol grip out of my mystery wood in about 40 minutes. fits very nice and tight but i sanded the front where it should have contacted the rear of the trigger gaurd. oops! i threw a little tung on her and violla.
the first picture kinda looks like a made the grip out of old mister peanut but i asure you i did not.
i think i might make a jig and whip out a couple of these for the hell of it.

if you need any help let me know, with S&B my bren works great. I have it set up for .303 and 54r. The only issue with 54r right now is i need a spring to put in my zb39 mags. I have to hand load one at a time. If you load 54r in a zb 39 mag you will see they tip downward in the front. Ive had great luck with the 54r running it on the second smallest hole on the gas regulator. The 303 surplus sucks. Mine short strokes bad on the biggest setting. Im thinking of making a ring to go around the gas exit holes that would slightly cut off the gas exiting? That or drill a bigger hole in the barrel and find a replacement gas regulator to experiment with. I bought a bunch of NEW barrels from omega weapons systems that looked to have never been fired. They were perfect.
you can get us parts from weaponeer i think still. magazine and trigger group parts.

if you want to sell some go to 1919a4.com

turbo, i missed the whole ring part reading through this post the first time. Ive also thought about doing the same. I would STRONGLY recommened you put a set screw in the ring and drill some holes in the ring so you can slowly close the holes by rotating the ring and tightening the set screw. I can speak from experiance that their is a lot of gas that can come out of there. The u shaped metal behind those holes is supposed to cut back on being blinded by the flash at night, the cone on themuzzle is for the same thing which im sure everyone knows. Ive seen lots of .303 surplus even the 60's and 70's date stuff have a few rounds everyonce and a while loaded hotter. On the bren i would hate to have the holes closed even with the smaller ones further back and have a higher pressure round send the bolt and carrier to the rear so hard it might break your striker. Ive also been looking for some soft rubber to glue in the back to absorb some energy should this happen to me even not closing the gas holes.
you know, if you wanted to do the ATF paper work and jump through hoops and the licensing etc you could make a lot of money building these for people

i was wondering about some holes drilled thru it and them maybe able to spin it to different gas levels again.
i could build one a day easy! 500$ lol i was thinking about getting it.
my striker is unbreakable!

I just finished cleaning all the cosmo off mine tonight. Mine is a MKII kit but came with two MKI barrels. Another thing I noticed was my bipod is off the mkI type but does not have the extendable legs. The feet look the same as the mkI as well as the mounting point, just the legs are solid. I've got a dent in the cover for the cocking handle in the buttstock. It restricts the slide on the handle from entering it. I'll have to slide hammer it a few times to get it out.
I have a question pertaining to the carry handle on the barrel. What's the purpose of pulling it back, and then pushing it forward? Instead of being at a 30 degree angle with the barrel, you can make it perpindicular?
Also, on the charging handle, there's a cross pin going vertical through it. It's holding another horizontal pin inside the charging handle. It the training manual, it shows there's a spring in there. Mine is bound, like it's frozen solid. Should it move freely, and what's the purpose?

would you like to trade my mkii barrel for your mki?

i noticed you can lock the handle down on the frame to make a kinda foregrip of to the side.

i think you are talking about the spring loaded pin that holds the cocking handle forward while fireing the weapon.

I'm building mine. All semi parts are machined, the striker I made was out of a solid chunk of steel. It's hardened, so it should hold up for a little while. I'll get a few photos of all the internals, I've done.
