Good morning all, does anyone know if Centerfire has any stamped or cast G3 receivers left? Any idea on pricing? For some reason $150.00 or so sticks in my mind.
Oh, do the stamped receivers have the sight base already welded on them or do I need to purchase one from RTG? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Order direct from the source (or have your FFL dealer do it)

Yes sir, that was my plan (sorry, should have been clear), however I do not know if they have any receivers (stamped or cast) in stock. Have a call in to them but was just curious if anybody knew.

Received a Century G3 receiver last week - spent some time on it this week and it's almost a firearm! This build was pretty uneventful - except one thing... the G3 receiver appears long in the rear. Before I start grinding away, is this common for these cast receivers? Is the fix to simply grind until the stock pins line up? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, I have built 3 cast G3 receivers and they have all been long at the tail end.
take it slowly and get close, then finish off with a file.

what is an aluminum G3 receiver? is it cast? and how is the trunion set since you cant weld steel to aluminum?

FAC made some cast Aluminum G3 receivers and you can easily recognise them as they have a flattop weaver rail cast in, plus they look like they are wearing a fluffy sweater.
The trunions are held into place with some drilled holes and pins. The real trick is how they attached the cocking tubes. The are held in place with a special plug at the triple frame, rather than welded to the receiver. (I also beleive that a screw holds the rear end in place in the receiver.

i like the integrated rail idea, is the weight savings worth the hassle?

I don't know because I don't own one. I have handled them at gun shows, but I personally think that they are FUGLY. As for savings in weight, the bolt carrier weis more than the Steel receiver, so I don't think that you would gain much savings by just changing out the receiver with aluminum.
All of the stress from firing is contained in the barrel/trunion/bolt head arangement, but the force of the bolt slamming home into the trunion will eventually take a toll on the aluminum of the receiver.
On the other hand, I have heard others who own these rifles claim that they have thousands of rounds through them without any hassles so YMMV.

The SS ones are really nice. Too bad you can't get them without Century stamped on them!

I have a fac aluminum.. I have 300 rounds through it. Looking at the stresses, I'd not buy an other one. Go for the ss one.
I have not had any failure with my aluminum G3 but I can only guess. Does anybody here have anything good to say about the FAC aluminum?
