Here's a pic of the barrel I got from Numrich. Price came to about $64.00ppd. It is the G3 contour and a sticker on it said made in Korea.
Hopefully the pictures will be clear enough to see the profile. The big difference is the rifling. I'm counting 8 grooves vs 4 on my Spanish barrel. What do you guys think that equates to on ammo selection and in particular bullet weights?
The barrel is also blued versus painted or parked. That should make a nice slick surface and help prevent any gauling. Wish me luck, I'm taking it to work tonight and use the press to get it in. If all goes well, I'll use the end mill to get the pin in.

This G3 contour barrel has a nifty "notched" section were the back of the triple frame will stop. What is its purpose? Looks to me like a nice place to solder the crapski out of it.
It sure did press better than the first one. It was a little tighter but the smooth blueing and a bit of oil made it go better.

I think that notch behind the triple frame has something to do with an eyelet for the G3 that the forearm attaches to... As you already know the G3 furniture attaches with a pin, and it goes through an eyelet... maybe thats what its for?

Ammo selection will be the same. Doesn't matter how many grooves it has. What does matter is the true bore diameter and the twist rate. Looks like a nice barrel.

There were problems with the fluting on those barrels I think.

I hope not, but we will see. I will give it a review after I'm done.

Drine, the reason the Military went to Parkerizing and now the Polybond tac paints is they found that bluing provided no rust prevention and due to it's slick surface, lubes wouldn't adhere either... I'd look for one of the clearcoat polybonds that will seal the bluing and acts as a dry lube... I got one of those barrels too as a spare. Nice barrel.

After I shoot the heck out of it and make sure all the work..worked I'm going to sand blast it, touch up a few cracks here and there, and duracoat it.
My stock and forearm are ready. About a dozen coats of tung oil hand rubbed and polished. I'm making it more a MARS look than a battle rifle so I can get away with the shiney surfaces. David

My gunsmith said he won't work on another Korean G3 barrel.
He said the flutes needed to be reworked, it can be done but its a pain and not worth the time.

How exactly do the flutes need to be reworked? Are they not deep enouh or something?

Now that I've already bought it and pressed it, let's hear how much more money I need to toss at this.:rantmeter: I may hold off a day or so to see just what the deal is. I'll call Numrich because CAI has already "broke one off in me" and I don't expect to take another one.
Can it get any worse? My end phrase below might just be more true than I ever thought!

Looking at my ruined Spanish barrel and then the Korean G3 barrel, the flutes are more pronounced on the Spanish one. I'm calling Numrich in the morning!
Well double heck. It seems like there is some old info on HKpro about TOO DEEP flutes on a Korean barrel from 5 years ago. CAused some serious over pressure. Maybe I ain't so peeved since mine looks shallow versus deep.

Check the bolt gap and if in specs ENJOY! If you have to clean the chamber flutes more often, so what! After all has been worked out (any problems) do any refinishing that needs done and enjoy!

Sound advice and I agree. This pup will get finished as is.
I surfed the net looking for Korean G3 barrels and found some reference to these from 5 years ago on the HKpro site. It seems the flutes were TOO DEEP then and some overpressure issues were found. My flutes are no deeper than the Spanish barrel and maybe a bit shallow. Yes, extra cleaning on it might be needed.
I've learned a lot thus far. I think if I bought some equipment to have a home I could do a much better job. I'm going to fix it as is. I may get a kit just to have and build one from scratch later. There are still too many other guns I need to add to my collection. Thanks for all the input guys!

Who has good barrels I have a h-91 with a korean barrel from GB and it wont cycle. keeps inprinting the case into the flutes. the flutes stop about a 1/2'' from the rear of the chamber and on the my Cetme the flutes stop around 1/4'' from the rear of the chamber. the flutes appear to be the same depth.

crazyhick... what kind of ammo are you using... sounds like a symptom of commercial brass to me.

Could be bolt gap too if youre using NATO ammo. The gun may be leaving the case in the chamber too long, and the bolt gap may need to be raised up a bit.

the last of my SA and the Bolt gap is .018. I'm stuck on this one. I'm glad my Cetme has no issues like the 91.

This has gone way past. Last night/early this morning I finished pinning the barrel. I cleaned it, drilled and tapped a set screw for the triple-frame to set it just right(thanks BigSteve) and it is ready to fire. .018 gap, the trunnion and barrel reamed pin holes to @ .200 since the trunnion hole was over 5mm. And used a gauge pin about .0003, I think, oversize. All went together nice and tight.
It's been a long time coming but work schedule, a root canal, and other things held me up. I will give a report on how well it works.
Just in case, I'm not refinishing it yet, paint etc. You see it was way after I had the barrel in hand and pressed that I got the news that it may not work good. Since I couldn't send it back, I finished the work. If it doesn't work, I take the set screw out of the triple-frame, punch my pin back out and push the barrel out and start again. IF, it doesn't work, Numrich will get one hellova letter about selling items that don't work.
If it DOES work and groups well, I'll shoot the heck out of it. Well at least until I can't afford the ammo!!
