Check it out I am going to be an environmental inspector on a Gas line construction job in the mountains of West Virgina for the next six months so I bought this bad boy to get me up and down the access roads and the construction corridor. This thing is really neat I can't wait to go play!!!:rockon::rockon::rockon:

The link you posted is no longer valid...
I just hope you got the 4.0L instead of the POS 4-banger
that's in mine. I get squat for gas mileage, and yet it has
no ba11s. I towed a lightweight trailer about 1300 miles total, and never got it much above 60-- the trailer had expanded-metal ramps sticking up that just put up too much wind resistance for the 4 li'l pistons to overcome. The trailer was wide, but it didn't weigh much, you could move it around
with one hand. I had to downshift from 5th to 4th on any part of the trip that wasn't dead-flat. Even minor rises, overpasses, etc....yes, mine has the vinyl windows....'nother bad idea.

This jeep runs better and stronger than any of my friends stock jeeps with half as many miles on them and will continue to do so for a very long time. I have always used Mobil synthetic blend motor oils and greased the zerk fittings on regular intervals and kept up on the maintnace. This jeep has excellent articulation though all sorts of trails and has always been an excellent daily runner for the durration of my ownership. Jeep put a great drive train in these vehicels! Inline 6 cylinder 4.0 liter engine, AM-4 Transmision, Dana 30 front, Dana 35 rear. Great on/off road vehicel with tons of extras, Check it out.:rockon::rockon::rockon:

One fantastic update for the jeep is to install a set of Hella E-Code headlights in the beastie with 55/60 watt bulbs - or more if your electrical can handle it. They are not cheap, but it was one of the best investments I did on my '96.
The Hella lenses use the H4 bulb. http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H4.asp
Don't buy the el-cheapo H4 bulbs from wallymart, get the good ones. I like the xenon +30 or +50 bulbs.
You can find the bulbs and lamps at http://www.rallylights.com/
Give them a call and tell them what vehicle you are installing them in. The E-Code is a much superior lamp design than the crummy US DOT standards. Do not go with the vision plus bulbs, get the E-Code lenses.
Pop me a PM if you need more info.

Good looking Jeep.
My 4.0L has got 173K so far.
I had a couple of the 2WD versions of that at work;
the mechanic told me that the 4.0 was an engine
you just occasionally put a water pump on and it
keeps on going.
Never had any problem with the engine on either
one of them... although I did inexplicably blow the
rear end on one....a 6-banger with an automatic
ought not to blow out rear ends, if ya ask me.
But, it *was* alot of mile it had been thru.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I really like this thing I have already put about 1000 miles on it and so far so good. In a few days I should get to take it off road and really put it through its paces.:rockon:

Even though I'm not wild about Jeeps, that is a really sweet looking ride. Easy to haul the guns and ammo, too. Seems perfect for your work.

Well my 1998 Cherokee did great! The job turned into a year and a half instead of the 6 months it was scheduled for. This was good for me but hard on the Jeep I put 34,000 more miles on it and it went where ever I wanted to go through horrible conditions five or six days a week. However on my way back to Ohio the transfer case went out. It is still a great jeep but it needs some repair after all it has been through.
Well I decided to sell the Cheokee and fix up my Jeep Liberty for the end of the job and for the next job. On 2/01/10 my next environmental inspection job starts and it is slated to last nine months.
Here are some photos of my 2002 Jeep Liberty it has just over 100,000 miles it has the 3.7 liter v6 and is equiped with the factory off road package and towing package. This includes a limited slip rear end and a high capacity cooling system.
Here are some of the Mods:
1) 2.5 inch Frankin lift
2) after market a arms
3) All new Moog heavy duty upper and lower ball joints and tierod ends
4) boulder bars
5) rock crusher rear differential cover
6) 16" Jeep Rubicon Wheels
7) Goodyear Wrangler MT/R (with Kevlar) LT245/75R-16 tires
Here are some before and after photos: You will notice a big difference in ground clearence!

Yeah it is a pretty cool job :rockon:. I haven't had a chance to play with the Liberty offroad much since the modifications but it actualy has a little more clearnce than the Cherokee. I have done enough to tell that it is a little monster that should go where ever I need to. I don't know if you guys have delt much with winter construction but it is messy!
The Liberty handles much better on the road since it has indipendent front suspension and so far I love the tires.
