A buddy of mine just built two Romies... One with and one without the handguard penis. They're both sweet shooters. Not much trouble to build, either.

That's what they use to call the summer sausage we ate years ago. Why are they putting summer sausage on an AK?

I just ordered a kit from apex . A 1970's kit and asked Him to double check for matching numbers in the comments section of their order form . I was told the topcover may not match . So I wonder what is considered a matching kit then???

Dont get me wrong guys .I have delt with Apex before and he runs an excellent outfit there . But I beleive if the topcover does not match then the kit is infact non matching . I can care less about the spring guide ,hammer ,trigger . . But infact a mismatched topcover would just ruin the whole aspect of building from matching number kits for me and destroy any resail value to a kit built rifle . Whats your thoughts guys???

this is true. When I bought my Polish Underfolder, i was sold a "matching kit", and I got a matching kit...EVERYTHING matches. Trigger parts, gas, tube, selector switch, everything with #'s matches. WIth a topcover that does not match, I do not consider to match. But that is JMO.

I would not consider it matching unless all parts match. Yea,I'd send it back.

you better read the whole line.
These are the last of our Romanian parts. They were exposed to salt water during transit; because of this some of the wood may be dried out and cracked. The bores are chrome-lined and are still bright and shiny, however the external parts have varying levels of "protective coating" rust. We have separated our parts into 2 grades - Grade B's will have a light rusty protective coating; Grade C's will have a heavy rusty protective coating
what the hell is a heavy rusty "protective" coating?

I was under the impression that rust is a form of corrosion and oxidation, not a protectant. I believe it is reffered to as bubba parkerization

Heavy rust is the scale rust with deep pits to hold the gun oil.

I was thinking of getting 1 or 2 just for spare parts. But there was a review of these rusted kits on another forum with pictures. They ranged from GOOD to Garbage. I would stay away.Any one that thinks "RUST" is a protective coating isn't playing with a full deck.:eek:You would be better off paying a few extra dollars for a decent kit.

Just get yourself some Ospho, put it in a Stainless Steel pot, heat it to about 180-190 degrees and drop the rusted parts in it. Instant parkerizing! :lol2:
I actually did this with some old black iron tools, they came out really nice, with a very hard black surface on the rusted surfaces. But I don't think it would work too good on gun parts!

I see "all matching" as important if you plan to put alot of work into a build. May as well go all out, right?
But for a custom project or just a range kicker rifle, if the bolt, carrier and front trunnion match I believe that is good enough.
