First off, I’m not a smoker (anymore), though I do support most smoker’s rights as their free choice. This is yet another example of the UK’s spiral into totalitarianism.

Remember the sword ban there a couple of months ago? Guns and ammo are ready banned from the populous, that is unless they are needed them to defend the elitists, then they will be issued them along with a uniform.

Next it will be fast foods, red meats, alcohol and whatever else their nanny government of neo socialists wants to enforce on their peon citizenry. When are these people ever going to stand up for themselves? Thank God we kicked their asses and sent them home 200 years ago or you could see what our fate would be by now. This crap is coming our way though if we aren’t careful…

You can't smoke in British pubs anymore, I think that was a year ago.

Well I could maybe understand that to some degree with 2nd hand and all. I'm neutral there to some extent in that it should be dependant on the pub owner's wishes, but to require a "license to smoke" in which I assume a LEO comes up to you on the street and wants to see your license to smoke your cigarette is going way too far for my comfort.

Well, Blimey... I dont imagine smoking in public being a healthy habit... You know, this is what happens when you get a bunch of Limeys who have been told how to think for the past thousand years trying to, now, cast their hat into politics... Limey, you gave up your rights a millenium ago. Shut the hell up. By the way, I dont use tobacco. I do, however, agree that any dumbass who wishes to do so should have that right.

Don't remind me. The pocket knife I carried thru England inn the 80's would prolly get me jailed there now.

Are shillelighs still legal? A good stout cane of blackthorn might be nice, but not against a gun.

Cricket bats are still legal...

i have no problem with private organizations, people, etc saying "you cant smoke in my business, etc, you have to take it outside" but that the government is so restrictive and they tell you where u can smoke is b.s. i'm not a smoker, i hate the smell and smoke in the air, but if its a public place or the owner of an establisment allows it, they have every right to do it. screw the restrictions of freedom, any freedom

sadly I don't think the US is very far from imposing this kind of fascist restriction. many cities have already banned smoking in pubic places, whether or not the owner of the establishment wishes to be smoke free or not.

of course this isn't the only area where the government deems themselves to be more enlightened than us and have the right to tell us how to be healthy. many cities are moving to ban foods cooked in trans fats. first they tell us we can't smoke, and now they're telling us what we can and can't eat? how is that NOT fascism?

no, smoking is not healthy, and neither are trans fats. but who are you to tell me how to live my life? who are you to tell me what is best for me? I smoke (on occasion, mostly pipe and cigar) and eat food with trans fats. so what? I also work out every day and lead a pretty damn healthy life, and am in better shape than most of america, so please don't tell me what to eat or not to smoke, I can take care of myself, thank you

already has plans for other nicoteine delivery systems.

Soon you won't take the patch or the nicoteine gum to stop smoking, it will just replace smoking.
