I've got the Numrich barrel pressed now. With my brand new bolt head, locking piece and "0" rollers, I'm about .028 on gap. A little long for sure. Now then, I still have my old bolt head, LP, and add the zero rollers and I get
.018 on the gap. So what is the consensus here. Leave all the old parts in and leave the barrel alone OR put all the new parts in and press to .018 or so?
Once upon a time, I might have shot it enough to wear parts out but with the ammo prices, it's doubtful. So anyone and everyone chime in here. I don't have it pinned yet. You "seasoned" guys really need to offer your opinion.:worthy: I'm not worthy but..........my grandma would appreciate it.

Get some -4's and -2's and put them in the new bolt head.

Thats what Id do...

I'll quote Perro from a WTB ad here...

actually, here is the link to the rollers
http://www.hkspecialist.net/small.htm

7.8 mm is minus 2
and
7.6 mm is minus 4

$26.00 a pair

If you can afford them... Id get them, and then you can shoot 10's of thousands of rounds without having to worry about it.

That's another good possibility. I posed the same question to gw11. He seems to really know these rifles and is a purist it seems.

They make the - sized rollers for a reason... so you can set up a rifle just as you have, and make it last longer before a repress......... That seems like the best option to me. Or you could just press it in a tad further and use normal ones I guess. But I wouldnt use the old bolt head or LP.

It just makes sense to do it that way with undersize rollers and new bolt, LP, and Carrier!

Only thing that I would be leary off with that much gap is where the rollers are sitting in the recess on the trunnion. Last thing you want is the bolt not being 100% locked.

And when you say "old" parts, how long is the bolt head?
.020 I would say yeah, .028 may be a bit long.

I think that the - rollers maybe for other roller locked hk firearms but not sure if they are designed to work in your rifle system. That said, worn parts with new parts may just be worn parts makeing new ones wear faster. The trunion, rollers and locking peice all work together. If it were my rifle I would get the system working together with the as designed rollers, new locking peice, bolt and new trunion(not sure if you had a used trunion or new one, the rollers lock to the trunion not the barrel) and barrel with the bolt gap towards the maxium recomended from the manufacturer.

Since I work on machinery/lasers for a living I like new nominal parts and fits. I went ahead and tapped the barrel in until I got .017/.018 bolt gap with all new parts and a "0" set of rollers. I'm going to pin it as tight as possible.
One thing bothers me though. The new pin is a slip fit in the trunnion hole. I would think it would be tight all around. They make these pins for other uses in variuos partial sizes so I may invest in a few of them and get the tightest fit possible and hopefully not loose much gap after break in.
