I know this was discussed at the old forum. I stumbled accross some Wolf steel case laquered for $5.50 a box and bought all 800 rounds recently. I have never shot it. Curious if anyone has shot it through their HK/Cetme or FAL and what the reliability was? I have not shot any of it yet.

the lacquer can cause fouling of the flutes in the chamber.

How about in the FAL Rusty. Any problems there that you know of? Not that it matters much. I bought the crap and now I have to shoot it.:)

On useing it in either rifle, have a broken shell extractor, or it will make for a bad day at the range for either rifle. I have read that the laquer will not burn off after rapid fire on many fourms, but havent run enough of the 308 thur my rifles. I have some for the Saiga iin 308 I have though. On the old furm there was some disucssion on seperation mainly though. I would keep any chamber clean from the stuff due to the coating. FYI though 105 artillary rounds are laquered thus not that uncommon, though those cases are stright walled and less likely to seperate.

I have shot the wolf and although very dirty I had know problems with it, it did seem to kick harder than my sa and my port! actually accuracy wasn't to bad either with my red dot non magnified scope (ncstar).

what about using acetone(or whatever) to remove the lacquer before shooting it? Anyone have any ideas on this? Would it make it beter or worse?

When I was in the Marines, we had a hard ass major. He polished his ammo with Brasso. When he went to shoot it, the M1911 exploded in his face. Seems some solvents break down the primer seal on Mil ammo and can cause high pressure leaks...

The lacquer sealant there to keep the caseing from rusting and I imagine it does reduce friction, thus you might end up with case seperations when the steel after expanding in the chamber has no lubrication(the laquer sheering would be better lubrication than the steel sticking) so I imagine its good enough to shoot from aks, though no fluted chamber, but I beleive the svt40 has a fluted chamber to aid extraction and you know that was made for steel cased laquered ammo(or I imagine it was in mind when designed but maybe the soviets didnt change to steel untill after wwII)

i shot about 500 rounds of the stuff with no problems, your results may vary. I consider it a "last resort" for ammo

The older lacquer ones are good and fired most excellent out of my FALs. However, the newer polymer crap resulted in pierced primers and the occasional doubling. I'm going back to the Silver Bear till the damn Wolf people use thicker primers again (cheap cossacks ).

This is not about .308, but it is about Wolf ammo.
Just open the Box O' Truth (http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu18.htm).....

I have a safe full of wolf in all sorts of calibers 5.56, 7.62, .40 and have never had any problems with any of it. It has all been pretty accurate and no problems making it go bang. My .02

I got it at Beloit Sports Center. Just trolling really and saw a stack of it all dusty and looking like it had been there for some time. If you get to the Janesville or Beloit area I find that they have ammo at places like that and it sits forever with the same price on it. You can also try Eagle Trading Co. on north sheridan rd. I haven't been there in a while but he always had some decent ammo prices.

When I was out of SA .308, I would goto Gander Mountain and pick up Wolf Steel cased .308.
While the Remington, and Winchester was $14-$20/box (and not recommended to fire) the Wolf was $5/box.
I figured that since it was steel cased there would be no problem with case seperation.
I never had a problem with Wolf. However is it very dirty.
Now the only problem is thet they have no more Wolf and they are not sure if they will get any more.
BTW, .308 at Gander Mountain is now $20-$40/box :056: :056: :056: :056: :056: :056:
