M-1, 03A3, Ishapore – Range

I took three mil-surp rifles to the range yesterday. It wasn’t anything new, but they are nice to look at. All rifles are original military.

All targets were fired at 100 yards.

Top: Ishapore Enfield 2A in 7.62x51 NATO
Middle: 1903A3 Springfield in .30-06
Bottom: M-1 Carbine in .30 Carbine

It was a good day. My new prescription shooting glasses helped, but using open sights at 100 yards is still a problem. The peep rear sights on the 1903A3 and the M-1 Carbine were easier to use and see the target. When I fired prone my eye was farther back from the rear sight than shooting from the bench and that was a help for some unknown reason.

Thanks for looking.

Yes, it was a great way to spend a day outdoors.

I'm new and now that I see this Range Forum I'll post in the appropriate place. Thank's for moving my post here.

Cavetech I am with you on the peepsights. When I was young I did not like them. Now nearing 50,I think nothings better!
Looks like a lot of fun with some old war horses.

Best thing about these fine old rifles is shooting them!

Thank you for the kind words.

My Dad carried an M-1 Carbine in WWII in CBI. He is responsible for my Carbine and kukri enthusiasm. He brought home kuks and Dhas.

My first mil-surp was a 1903 Springfield I bought when I was a boy for $40.00. How prices change. I still have it, too.

Then I became interested in Enfields and just had to have an Ishpore.

OK. So I'm a C&R addict and I admit it.

I might have some rather unusual range reports with pics. I'll go look for them.

Darn, I found a picture of my first 1903, now a cherished sporter, but mostly original.
