I have an architect buddy that has been talking about his Garand for awhile now. I met him this week to see what his shooter is all about.

Lo and behold. The first Winchester barrel I have ever seen in person. Has a Winchester front sight too.

Now the bad news.

1943 Springfield receiver with what looks like shellac on the metal. Should be easy to remove without affecting the original finish?!?!

Apparently a birch or beech replacement stock that looks all torn up on the outside AND inside.

Now the worst...Unfortunately, as one might expect, the bore is sewer pipe like none I have ever seen. Throat erosion is 5 and muzzle erosion.........well..........it totally swallowed my gauge past the numbers up to the grip. Real shame..

I'm going to do what I can to strip the stock and refinish with Chestnut Ridge Military Stock Stain and some Formbys Tung Oil Finish since there is no collector value to it.

I've been looking for a Winchester barrel forever now. Too bad the first one I found has 5 million rounds and 1 million angry bore cleanings down the pipe...

Like many women, it looks nice from a distance. Something to work on, anyway.

Does the alcohol thing work with women as well?

Wonderwolf, the alcohol will definately work on removing the fake
covering over the real skin of a woman, but it won't help out with
the shot out bore at all unless, you are drinking the alcohol.

BTW, Longhorn, Good luck on the refinish job.

Alcohol + women= trouble
Sometimes incarceration. I don't want to talk about it..

Buddy of mine has a winchester receivered garand with a wincester barrel and front sight. It wouldnt cycle, so he scavenged his op-rod out of a springfield, and it runs perfectly now.

Is that a replacement stock? looks really nice... especially for a rifle with that many rounds.

and +1 to DENATURED alcohol for the shellac. make sure to oil the finish when youre done or the metal will surface rust pretty fast.

I have a similar experience but it didn't lead to incarceration, just a lot of cops.

Is that a replacement stock?

Definetely a replacement. Looks decent in the pictures, but the end of the buttstock is chewed up from being in some sort of vehicle rack I would guess. A little attention with some sandpaper sould do the trick..

Try some alcahol to remove the shellac.

I see that it also works as a typing encoder.

How many Garands does it take to be out of control? I have 16, but I want a few more!
