any one ever use one? I know they are a "cheaper" made shotgun, but was thinking of something to throw into boat/truck as a beat around brush gun. Was curious on performance under heavy use, etc.
Wally world has them for around 170$
Thanks for any info folks,

I used to have a maverick. not a bad boomstick. mine was a pistol grip pump 12gauge with a 20 inch barrel. it took quite a beating. the only issue I ever had with it, it kicked like a mule. but all in all a nice gun.

Mavericks are good shotguns. The safety on them is not on the top of the tang like the 500's though. They have a trigger guard safety. Some people actually find this to a better design then the 500's. Are you buying the one with the 18" barrel for $170?

I own the 18" Maverick 88, its a great gun!. Better than the Mossberg 500 because of the safty location and also the manufacture location. Maverick's are made in Texas! They cost about 1/2 the price of a 500. I paid $156 at Academy, they also had the longer barrel model. I always see short barreled 500's just like my 88 selling for $299 and I always wonder why people buy them.

Mine held up well. No complaints and the price was right.

Texas made Mossberg. Eagle Lake, I believe. Support Texas made products, the illegals need work. JK.

They are not exact copies, they have plastic trigger guards and different safeties than the Mossberg ones. Thus a lower cost variant of the 500 family. That said I have one for home protection and knock around shooting. Now if I could only afford the ammo, after seeing boxes of shot shell go from thrteen to twenty three in a year.

Wife went 'nd picked up the Maverick today from wallyworld. She says it fits her great, and she likes the light weight of it. She got the longer 27" barrel, and a box of 100 "skeet" shells for 165.00......last time I tell her about a new gun, next time Ill just SHOW her...:P)

I have an 88 in Riot Configuration with 18 1/2 in. brl. heat shield, wood butt stock (Painted black)for strength & ruggedness & thick recoil pad, police type sights and sling & swivels. Now im looking for USGI alice clip shotgun ammo pouches in OD for my Alice pack and USGI pistol belt ...

I prefer the top safety on my 500--falls right under the thumb.
In any case, every gun show I go to, I see used 500's going for bargain prices. I wouldn't buy new.
I paid a whopping $75 for mine 10 years ago!

iDios mio, man! iEste es mucho dinero!
I also prefer the top safety, much more use for left and right handers.
is my only complaint, but makes for a nice trenchcoat gun...... course it kicks the crap out of the shoulder, but I am wimp when it comes to 12ga shotguns..

I bought a maverick from wally world a few years back. It would not fire so I had Wallmart send it back to Mossberg. Quick turnaround and it came back operating like it should. Only reason I got rid of it was because I had too many mossberg 12 guages.
good low cost shotgun
