Also, for anyone interested in obtaining an application for a C&R license., you can go here:

And from the right side (blue area) choose form:
F 7CR (5310.16)

Then fill out the info needed under parts 1 and 2.

A C&R application will then be mailed out to you and you should receive it within a week or two.

After you receive the C&R application, fill it out as required. This includes the one that goes to your CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer), which is usually your county Sheriff. You should also include a cover letter with the CLEO app stating something like this:

Dear Sheriff JOHN M DOE:
Enclosed please find, as per federal regulation, a copy of my ATF Form 7CR. Please keep this copy on file. You are not required to take any action with respect to the enclosed form. If I can be of any service, or if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the address above.
Your truly,
Your full name.

After you submit the apps it usually takes about a month or so to get your C&R license if it all checks out ok.

Usually you will receive an information pack a few days before you receive the license itself. Make sure you take the time to read the booklet (the thin brown one) that entails your responsibilities as a C&R holder....this is important information for you to know and understand.

When you get your liscence, DO NOT SIGN the original copy. Instead makes lots of copies (I recommend at least 25). These are the ones (copies) that you sign and will use to make C&R purchases and send out to all the distributors. You'll need a bound book to keep a record of your purchases (acquisitions and dispositions). You can get a bound book from Brownells for just a few dollars or you can do as I did and make your own using templates you can download and print off the interenet using a 3-ring binder.

The biggest thing to keep in mind as C&R holder is that this license is for collecting, not dealing (reselling).

Can someone also explain the benefits of having your C&R license? I mean aside from the main fact of you're allowed to have eligible firearms shipped directly to your house and avoiding the FFL xfer fees and delays.

Thats the point of a C&R Geilt. You can order direct from the wholesalers at a much cheaper price. Some companies, such as Brownells, Midway and Numrich also give you a discount for their products...which comes in handy. Being on the mailing list of companies such as Century also gets you first dibs on things like ammunition. As a C&R FFL holder you are a Collector of C&R Firearms.

What are some of the side benefits of having the C&R?

I thought some companies would extend certain discounts to you but wasn't sure, nor did I know which ones would. I have the paperwork but just haven't sent it in yet.
