There is an interesting and sickening example of Iraqi G3 in latest Shotgun News. In the 20 March 2008 edition page 30 is an example of super bubba'd G3. Best read on an empty stomach.

Its an iranian, I guess they do what they do to keep and get them working, as I am guessing would happen in most insurections around the world.

Notice how the stock is modified to for recoil? I'll be that was after the first time auto was tested. Actually not a bad idea for a build...

I wonder how well it actually works with the barrel cut so short? I don't imagine they have HK51 style LPs floating around all over the place. I bet it's a bitch to cock too

Wow...I guess you can add a gas tube to a g3.

I can't believe that thing worked.

is that really being used as a gas tube, or just a cocking tube? I suppose if it were a gas tube that would help it cycle with the shortened barrel

the original STG45 design was a roller-locked gas operated design, but was changed to blowback to make it simpler, so it could theoretically be made to work

I think we are all giving the guy who made this too much credit on any design, its delay blow back but with maybe a gasport, but maybe not. They may have just taken a hacksaw to the barrel, then slipped on a yugo gas block and welded or silver soldered it to the barrel and receiver of the G-3. Then after realizeing they couldnt cock it they sloted the receiver and added the ak lever.

without the advantage gained by the cocking lever, Yep I bet its a real one to cock too.
I wonder if its more than a single shot. You would have to tinker alot to get it to work well in that state.

03-25-2008, 05:17 PM
i was thinking the same thing, surely it can't be more than single shot, unless he really knew what he was doing or he was really lucky

Anyone see this in Shotgun News? I don't know why Perro couldn't get his to run, this thing seems to work fine....

Take one well used G3, whack off the barrel and cocking tube, weld on an AK sight post, grenade sight and cocking handle to the bolt. The you just need to cut a slot in the receiver for the handle.

They said the fireball resembles Hiroshima....

Think this thing might be hard to cock?

Think how short it would be with a collapsible stock on it... whoa!

I think I can do a better job on one than that.. a SKS charging handle would look better, and leave the G3 triple on the front...

hmmmm fake can over a 16" barrel and it would still cycle fine... sure solves the cocking tube problems..

But I bet it is an absolute biyaatch to cock!!

looks like they made it into a gas piston type rifle not delayed roller lock.

texlurch
04-12-2008, 03:02 PM
No, it still has the rollers and bolt head; they just did away with the cocking handle and tube... but then again almost looks like an AK gas piston on the end of the bolt carrier.. which would interfere with the recoil rod and spring.. my guess is the end of the bolt carrier was just turned down to fit into the AK gas block....

Its totally a one of a kind operating systems too.
Call it a "gas piston assisted, delayed blow back?"

huh, now there's an idea. that might be able to compensate for the extra-short barrel and lack of a HK51-type locking piece.... otherwise that thing's probably single shot

the original STG45 prototypes (from which the CETME was based) were actually gas operated/roller locked, but were later redesigned to the delayed blowback to simplify production and reduce weight

texlurch

I don't think it uses the gas piston; it would have to have a large hole in the middle for the recoil spring rod.

Also, the article states it runs in FA....

i doubt it does either, just saying that would be an interesting (though perhaps unnecessary) idea.

if it actually runs well in FA, then I'm impressed

Did anyone see the "Guns of the bad guys" article in the March 20th issue of SGN?
They had a captured cut down G3 with a AK gas block lashed up on it. The barrel was cut down to about 6 or 8 inches and the cocking tube was hacked off and a yugo gas block and tube was bubbawelded on to it. Then Hajji needed a way to cock it so he welded a cocking handle right onto the bolt carrier at the front of the ejection port. Then he cut a slot for it along the side of the receiver. The thing must have been a bear to cock, without the cam effect of the original cocking assy.
Sorry I have no pics, maybe someone can scan it and post it.

FWIW, it was originally brought up in this thread. granted, it was not a thread solely dedicated to the one rifle, it was about shortened G3's in general.

Hmm... Not feeling the love, right now... Okay, thank you, Hunter, I did finally get to see the gun in question. Wow, that's really ugly, by the way. I think I'd let someone else test fire the little bastard.
What really gets me is why put a gas block on a delayed blowback operated firearm? Seems kind of retarded to me. That's like putting a bayonette on a sword.

FWIW, I figured you were just messin.... sadly, and I obviously have been a victim/culprit in this as well, some times when you type something it doesn't have the same effect as if you were talking to someone in person and ribbing them a little bit.

I never search posts before I post a new thread, but I'm on here enough that I don't miss much, but I can understand when it happens. I thought this one was funny because there wasn't just one.... but its not a big deal, I thought it humorous, and I think it just came off wrong like we were making fun of someone when really it was just kinda "giving him a hard time".

I've been known to spout off in the past, but its all in good fun.... problem is, the "good fun" sometimes doesn't translate through the internet.
