Okay I have never sent a handgun to have it repaired by the manufacturer.
Today I have 2 that must go to different places. Fed Ex wants $62 to ship a wheel gun back to Taurus & $62 to ship a Tomcat .32 cal handgun to Beretta....like OMG thats dipping into the value of the gun now to have it repaired, if its going to cost me that much plus 200% more because I have to do it at a store I'd be better off taking 1 to a gunsmith and having it repaired and cutting the other gun in half and selling it for parts. I dunt wanna do that.
A week ago I had sold 2 identicle handguns on Gunbroker, but when I tried to figure the cost of shipping them FedEx wanted $150 WOW :2pistol: I don't understand how dealers can send any gun threw a carrier for $25 insured.
All I want to do is get my 2 freeking guns repaired without paying out my ass for shipping costs, I know Beretta will send it back to me for less $30 and the same for Taurus.
I am completely confused now, UPS accepts guns but they don't, adult signature tags are required, but how the hell do I get them without taking them from the UPS store from behind the counter? My local store wont give them up.
Its quickly becoming more trouble than its really worth. Can I schedule a pickup for handguns or do I have to drive all over phuqing arizona to find a location that will accept 2 boxes with handguns in them? Last time I called FEDEX was to ship ammunition, that took me 2 days to get answers from them to ship 16 rounds of antique ammo.
I have only received a bunch of guns and handguns threw FEDEX and UPS from dealers, I never actually sent any out.
Anybody have an idea............

Have you called Taurus? They might be able to give you some advice.
I hate to say it, but this is why with new pistols I usually buy from a decent local dealer. Then if there is a problem I can go back to the dealer and have them deal with getting it fixed.
You might even try going to a local dealer and asking them about shipping the gun to Taurus. They might be able to get a better deal.
I shipped a FAL through UPS for 15 bucks... try them. they were very helpful when I shipped through them.

there is a big difference in shipping pistols and rifles. most shippers will not let a non 01 ffl dealer ship pistols any more. sometimes you can get away with it, but most time you can't. i quit shipping pistols a few years ago. it has gotten very expensive to ship guns and ammo.
if you follow there rules, signature, insurance, etc. it is going to cost between $50 and $100 to ship a pistol and it cost me between $25 and $40 to ship a rifle. if you don't follow there rules and it get damaged or stolen they sometimes don't pay.
UPS was the only shipper i use for the last few years. they knew me and i didn't get any hassel from them. fed-ex has had a problem of not paying when damaged or lost guns. they usually will not insure if you tell them it is a gun and if you don't tell them it is a gun and insure it they won't pay.
i would call the place you are shipping to and see if they will issue a call tag. even if you have to pay it is usually a lot cheaper, they get a real good rate.
good luck

I wish I could back to the dealer it was bought from unfortunately that was in 1983.
Taurus said that $58 is normal. So I guess its my loss.
I even went so far as to call a transfer Only Dealer in my area, and we started off with my 03FFL and sending it threw the US mail, upon finding that it specifies Dealer or Manufacturer it sort of threw me off on that since the 03 is not considered a license for the sole purpose of business-rather its for collection only, can buy and sell at will to improve or completely dispose of my collection.
Of the USPS regs 11.1.3 Authorized Persons: States just that. Not worth the risk IMHO. UPS and Fedex set the overnight rules, it is not in the ATF rules and regulations for shipping firearms its totally gaaaaaaay of them to rape us for their own self pleasure of sticking their hands into our bank acct.
Neither Beretta nor Taurus would issue a call tag.

I am Bending over now, getting ready to take it up......

Good luck to you with Taurus.
In my experience they average 5-6 weeks per "try" at repairing your gun. The one time I had to have them repair my PT745 it took them three tries over a five month period. They finally fixed it correctly, but I was so disgusted by that point that I traded in to a dealer for a 22 revolver.
I paid the freight the first time. (On a brand new pistol no less.) They sent call tags for FedEx p/u the next two times since they kept screwing up the repair.
It had about a 15% failure to fire problem. Wouldn't smack the primers hard enough to set them off. The first "repair" was to bugger the feed ramp with a Dremel so it would no longer feed HP ammo. (I have no idea what they were thinking of whne they did that.) The second repair consisted of adjusting the spring and striker. That reduced the FTF rate to 10%. Still had a buggered feed ramp. They suggested I just get used to pulling the trigger a second time to set off the round! Third time they promised me a new pistol, but that didn't happen. 5 weeks later I got it back with a new barrel/feed ramp. And they had finally replaced the striker firing pin and spring. Ran 100% now. Duh! So they did finally repair it right. But I was so sick of it I couldn't stand looking at it. At least I could trade it in with a clean conscience since it did finally run 100%. But I had long before replaced it with a XD45. And I like the Taurus 22 revolver I got in trade for it too. Great target plinker.

So, if I may, what is wrong with the pistols? Maybe you could get them to send you the replacement parts.

One more thing regarding shipping pistols,
They must go Overnight.
All shipping contractors are required to ship handguns overnight, as opposed to shipping long guns or shotguns which can go ground.

that rule is the shippers rule, not a atf rule.

Quite right, the Federal rule is that handguns cannot be mailed via USPS and must go through a common carrier, while rifles can.
