I bought an old 91-30 that had been fitted with a scope mount. Drilled and tapped into the octagonal receiver, that is... Fitted into a black Monte Carlo stock. Oh, it's hideous. The rifle itself, however, is in great shape, and where can I get some 91-30 wood to restore it to it's former glory? M-44 wood seems to be easy to come by, but I can't find the longer stuff. Does anyone know of a site that sells these? I also need the rings for the foregrip wood and a cleaning rod to complete the whole thing. As I know the numbers aren't going to match, and the historical value will be diminished, anyway, from the drilling and tapping for the scope mount, I'm probably just going to leave it on there, as it's the most accurate one I have and therefore it will make a good scoped long-ranger, but it will still look much better with the wood.

brewskzilla, how is the stock search going?
Don't know if this is helpful but check out Great American Gunstock Company at www.gunstocks.com. They might be able to help. Still would be custom/repop but...

Okay, I'm having trouble posting pix. I'm trying to import some from my laptop, and I get it as far as the "advanced setup" and I can't actually get them into the posting. What am I doing wrong?
Predator, If I can find a stock that I'm happy with, I'll GIVE you that Monte Carlo stock.

you may just be "x-ing" out of the box too soon. It takes a good while to upload larger photos. You have to wait until the "uploading photos" banner goes away and THEN close the box.
you can also try www.photobucket.com That's what I use to store my pics online, and you just hotlink to them in your posts. Each picture has a link under it that when you click on it, it automatically copies so you just come over here to your message body and paste, and VOILA a picture shows up.

No luck, yet, but I'm on a few good leads. Found one at the Eastman Gun Show, but they wanted too much for it and further inspection showed that it was actually split pretty bad.

Try these guys. Sometimes it's hit & miss. Also Go to Moisin-Nagant collectors. They have new links to vendors in the "current" circle. http://www.buymilsurp.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2

I bought Mosin parts from "buymilsurp". Good outfit to deal with. I had ordered a bolt and some other parts. The other parts arrived but the bolt didn't. I e-mailed him about the missing bolt and he said "no problem" and sent me a replacement. Try buymilsurp. He usually has stocks on hand. BTW, I needed a 91/30 barrel. I bought one advertised as in "good condition". Wrong. It was in excellent condition once I ran a patch through it. Everything I bought from that outfit has been better than advertised. And most of his prices are very reasonable.
