This is my first Mosin Nagant. It is a 1941 Izhevsk low wall M38.

I gotta get one, they're showing up again locally at shops and shows.

It will be my third mosin (1 was M-44, 2 was 91/30).

I love the boom and flame on my M 44, at sunset its about 6 feet long and 2 feet wide, gotta work on my angle to get my campfires started. The M38 ought to be the same. My 91/30 only puts out about a foot long flame.

I love my M-38 for the winter months when we have to walk the 1/4 mile from the road to the shooting area... great balance and not too heavy. Plus the fireball and loud boom are always fun.

Just shot it today. Wow, that has got to be one of the funnest rifles I have ever shot. Big boom, big flame, and close to 30.06 recoil.
There will be more Mosin Nagants for me for sure!

does it have a counter bore? i think all of mine are.

Well there is a pretty neat 1943 round high wall receiver from Izhevsk M91/30 down at the local gun shop.
But Classic Arms has a pretty good deal for 3 or more 91/30 and I am thinking about that pretty hard too.
