So, as some of you may know, i work in a bowling alley, and today, a customer accidentally threw a bowling ball into the monitor that shows score, etc. it was completely on accident. it was during Bowling Class (yes, my school as a bowling class...) and in front of the professor, bowling from behind "the wood" with the manager, the ball got stuck on his finger and hit the television..... needless to say, my manager (aka the professor) wasn't pleased at all.... i thought it was funny as hell, but so many people cant wrap thier mind around it here.... but yea, this is a true story.
like our lanes arnt broken enough, one of the good lanes now has a broken screen.... were down to 5 working lanes out of 12

You see? I've been saying for years that bowling balls are dangerous. There are CHILDREN at bowling alleys! What if that monitor had been a little girl's head? I'm writing my congressman and calling for a ban on bowling balls. America deserves safe places for families to go have fun, and with big, heavy balls rolling around, it's only a matter of time... Dear God, dont you remember "Bowling for Columbine?!?!?!"

Shhhh Brew, if you do that we will all have to start wearing bicycle helments and body armor at the lanes and the armor hampers my backswing and follow through !!!

What in the world are those monitors doing down that low, anyway?
Yes, replace those dangerous hard balls with Nerf balls!!

This reminds me when we were shooting pistols at an indoor range. One guy managed to shoot one of the lights out. :2pistol:
Is the person going to have to pay for the monitor?
ctdemolay0405
04-16-2008, 10:55 PM
the monitor is 9 feet off the ground... more than ample clearance for bowling..... so we thought. That particular monitor from dell is 1200 bucks, and we have insurance on it (so i'm told) and the kid offered to pay, but when we told him the price... he was like "well, i'll pay, but u wont get it all in one lump sum unless you take a cc" but we told him not to worry too much about it for now, he'll be hearing from us (he's there almost every day anyways, whether he's in the class or just there). I think the school will cover it, but who knows.

Heck, there are credits for intercollegeic football, basketball and almost any other varsity sports at most universities too. The bowling class is, I imagine to teach the fundmentals and to gain skills. My university had a bowling class.

okie
Drinking a few draft beers and eating a basket of salty French Frys covered in Heinz Ketchup is part of the fundmentals!
Those are skills.. You gotta do that if you go bowling..
BTW I learned those skills on my own, it can be done with a little practice.
note If you are under 18 please subsitute a Pepsi in a plastic cup for the beer

Hey, we had a shooting class when I was in college. I aced it, of course. That and archery. Bowling, though? Wow! They need to have an accredited "smear the queer" class. Remember that little game? Oh, I'm sorry, the politically correct name of the game is "tackle the man with the ball".

I had an girlfriend who took pool in college. She was like frikin Paul Newman in Color of Money good.
You know, someone oughta design some sort of steel cage you can put over those monitors that would protect them. I bet you could make a fortune.

Bowling balls don't kill monitors, people kill monitors.
Hillary or Obama, either one, might be inclined to issue an Assault Ball Ban...
If the press gets ahold of this, you bowlers will have to start shopping for Bowling Ball parts kits. (Sorry for the bad quality of the attached photo)

I get the whole "stuck on the finger" thing, but why exactly was somebody bowling from behind the wood again, and how freakin hard was he swinging that sucker to get it to fly that far and hit a monitor. From the looks of your pictures of the lanes, this pretty much HAS to be deliberate. I mean I've had a ball get stuck on my finger before, and I'm a hard bowler, and I've never even been close to having a ball fly that far forward, though I have had one stick and go in the next lane over from me. And it hurt my finger pretty damn bad. I got my holes reamed out (please hold crude comments) after that, and now only my thumb sticks a little bit, but its just like it should be with the "pop" on release.
Ahh man I miss bowling, we used to bowl at Showplace lanes when they ran "quartermania"... $10 entry, quarter shoe rental, quarter beers, and quarter games.... you could get totally wasted, and bowl for 4 or 5 hours into the night for $20. We would get 4 or 5 lanes in a row back in the day and have a big bowling block party.
For a few weeks I averaged 210ish, I totally suck now after taking a couple years off.

he was bowling from behind the wood because, well, the professor was too, as was the rest of the lane, just to be foolish. i honestly dont believe it was intenitonal, from his reactions, willingness to pay, he did it right in front of the professor.... i honestly cant think in any way shape or form it was intentional.
i gotta stock up on parts kits for bowling balls before the terrorist or the PMSing succubus attempts to get rid of them if in office

I imagine this is what insurance is for, or in the Universities case, the fact they are self insured, thus the operation of the alley will take a hit. Atleast I imagine if they are standard type moniters, they are cheaper now than when installed.

its an HD flatscreen from dell... thier flagship monitor... 1200 on dell.com, but through the bowling supplier... probably more. but yea, we're gunna take a hit... i wonder how adam (my boss there) explained it to his bosses..... i should find that out

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its fairly assinine to pay that much money for a monitor thta will never see a true HD signal. I mean do the "strike" and "turkey" graphics really have to be that clear and vibrant.
I think it was karma catching up to the bowling alley for spending too much $$ on monitors.

TSK! Don't you know the alley is just trying toget ahead of the rush when the Gubmint completes its ban on regular TV monitors? And the politicos pocket their bribes from the HD people? How do you expect the customers to keep score without HD monitors? They will have no signal after February. You know. Like microwaves would stop working on Y2K because their computor calendars didn't go that high. :nonono:

i have *NO* idea why they spent that much, i would have punched the salesman in the face when he said the new scoring system would cost this much because of 12 HD monitors when we could have used the same old tvs from before..... ah well, the dumbarses tend to be the ones making decisions

It don't get any better, ctdemolay. The administration in my clinic goes on making the same old f***ups despite my handing them the solutions. I mean literally handing them the solutions all outlined in writing with flow charts and everything. They mutter something like, "We'll look into that" and just keep f***ing up.
