Dam I peel my barrel like a nice banana I have a few questions.
1 does the peeling of the barrel will affect performance or only affects the looks of the rifle?
2 if scratching the barrel will affect performance how can I know if my barrel is damage beyond repair?
Any comments are appreciated.

I have seen AKs that looked like that, I think if it still fits tight ,then go with it.

Looks like what happened to Drine the first time he pressed his barrel. Do you have any clue if it was the front edge or rear edge of the trunnion that galled the barrel like that? If its the front edge, there shouldnt be any issues, and if its still tight, an the gap is good, I don't see why pinning it correctly wouldn't stop any movement. So long as you get the pin in tight and perfect, the galling is just a blemish visually as far as I can tell.

a little gawling never hurt any AK,HK, if nothing else, now it's toothed to the trunnion:wink: Really, it should be fine once you pin it. Did you try using anti seize?

Well I am sure it was the front of the trunion by the time I realized that I was scratching the barrel it was too late to go back and I did not wanted to push the barrel back so I went for it the gap is about .017, thanks for the quick response this is my firth build and I have 2 more to go so the mistakes I make on this first one I will not repeat on the next ones, the next barrel press I will clean the inside of the trunion to prevent scratches. Hopefully some one will learn from my mistake. Ones aging tanks for the responses this is a great site and fill with good info.
Thanks

I did something similar on my first barrel press. It was the inside front edge of the trunion that was sharp and protruding into the barrel area a bit and did some scraping. I

checked several other trunions and they has the same thing with a sharp inside edge protruding. Before I press more barrels, I will deburr the edge to prevent this. My guess is the barrels at the factory were pressed from the front and would not have had this issue.

On the trunnions that are galling, is there a witness mark from the bolt impacting it? Just curious as the bolt is supposed to close on the barrel, and I have seen a few with a mark from the bolt hitting the trunnion, which would cause it to peen a bit, maybe?

(appears on your shoulder like a little cartoon devil)... Oh, come on, dont be a wussy... Fire the rifle!

In all actuality, you should be fine. Check your spacing, load a mag and hand-cycle the whole things, observing how it works and checking for problems. inspect the mating of the barrel and the receiver on the inside with a good light and look for gaps. Remember, if the sizes matched up perfectly, you wouldn't need a press to get it in there, would you? If your pinholes mate up then you're ready to rock!
