Howdy all. I have never had ammo shipped before, so I have a few questions. Does someone have to sign for it or do they just leave it on the porch? I never picked up 1000 rounds of .223 or .308 but it must be heavy. Do they just pull it off the truck and leave it in the driveway? Just flashed back to Germany running through the woods with a M60 in one hand and a 500 round ammo can in the other. I won't say how long ago that was, but I was much younger. Most of my packages I have sent USPS to my box because of the rotten little kids around here. Any info would be appreciated.

You do have to sighn for it. Some companys require proof of age now. So you may have to get a copy of your license to them too.

The only thing I have had to sign for are guns. UPS just leaves the bullets by my door. I have been home when UPS/FEDEX were making a delivery. I believe it was 1k of 762x39 or one of those cases of SA762nat that aim was selling a few years back. The FEDEX/UPS lady was half way to the door when I walked out and took it from her. In a smart ass voice she said, "what's in there bricks?"

I told her it was gold bricks and walked away.

A case of 308 could be about 60+ pounds, sure felt like it to my back. I've never signed for ammo, powder anything related.

Seems like the last three times I've gotten a delivery of ammo, I've had to sign. I assumed it was UPS. Maybe it was the ammo company I don't know. All I know for sure is I was'nt here so I had to go to the UPS warehouse at the end of the day to pick it up.

I think it depends on the company selling it. I have only had to sign for ammo one time.

Most times the signature requirement is something that the sender requests so that they can prove that somebody was there to receive it.

There are some exceptions with hazardous materials. Ammunition is treated as a hazardous material, but of a low catagory. Ammo shipments are marked ORM-D to let the transport company know. Some transport companies have some whacked rules about transport and delivery of ALL hazmat, and may require an adult signature on ammo.

Whenever I had Aim deliver ammo they just left it on my back porch.
J&G alway required signature.
Both require that you be on file.

I guess if they are going to just leave it I'd have to have it shipped to a friends house. Thanks for the info.:thx:

Also, I think if you are worried about someone taking your stuff off the porch you can request that the driver make sure someone is there too. Or do like I did, and go to the warehouse at about 6-7:00 pm on the day they try to deliver it after the trucks all get back, and pick it up then.

I'm trying to remember, I ordered so many little things last month at the same time....AIM shipped me the .308 battle packs using UPS and they left it on the door step, Ammo Man shipped me 1k rounds of 762x39 twice using FEDEX and they just left it on the door step too, come to think of it. CTD sent me steel mags for the cetme and UPS made me sign for them...I guess you just never know

Centerfire Systems and or AMMOMAN require an adult signature upon delivery. I would NOT want my ammo just dropped off in front of the house, free for the taking.

I once caught a group of kids following a Fedex truck around on delivery. One car followed the truck and another one stopped off at delivery spots where something was easy to take.

My mother's health care items were being picked up and loaded into a car as I opened the door. The wife had her 9mm pistol and our rottwieller to let go.

These guys dropped the stuff and laid a huge scratch in the driveway. But, when they hit the curb at the end of the driveway, the left side front tire popped. Rim on the street.

I turned the license plate into the police. But, they did not get more than three blocks away. That car went by on a tow truck past the house. I listened to how many were in custody on my police scanner.

Fedex was called to retrieve a trunk full of other stolen packages.

Glad I did not have to disinfect my dog over at the vet if she tore up one of them kids!

same here, K98. In the last year or so, I've only ordered ammo online form onne forum member, the rest I get at gunshows. price is abt the same.

I must have a pretty good neighborhood. I've had pkgs delivered when I was away form the house for 24+hrs, only to come back the next day and they'll still be there. Or, mebbe ppl are more worried they'll pick up an explosive shaped like a UPS pkg.

I'll say it is the former.
