A shooting buddy of mine is experiencing some feed problems with his AR. He is not too handy with things digital, so I posting on a forum is out for him. I do not own an AR, so I am not any help. He has an Olympic AR and was using an H & K 30 round mag and a nameless 20. With both mags the second round would not feed, resulting in a bullet being pushed into the case. He was using factory ammo, but did not have any of the factory mags along with him. Any ideas???
Thanks for any assistance.
i had bought some cheap mags and they didn't work for $hit. went to colt mil spec and its been flawless since. the h&k mag should be mil spec so i dont know why that one is haveing problems.:056:

1. are the mags locking in?
if the mag isn't seated all the way home your bolt could still strip a round off the mag and jam the bullet as you discribed.
2. do the mags wiggle for and aft?
I've experianced the same problem with the bullet jamming into the case deeper with my 9mm AR, the reason it happens on my 9mm is the mag will wiggle for and aft causing the bullet to "nose dive" into the feed ramp.
if the mags do wiggle, try holding with your off hand under the mag and pushing it forward to see it it cures the feeding problem. if it does, get better mags.

If the rifle is not cycling right (strong enough) you could have a dirty gas tube. It has to be cleaned often with a long pipe cleaner.

.....if it does, get better mags.

Those H&K high reliability mags are top of the heap. I don't know of any better AR15 mags.
Since it's affecting both mags, it's probably NOT the mags.

He might try seating the mags with the upper and lower seperated and see if there is some reason that the mags are not locking into the lower properly. Sounds like there is something keeping the mags from seating properly. Might get a USGI mag to see how well it fits too.

When he loads the mags, does he always have them stacked the same way, i.e. is the top round always on the left or right? It shouldn't matter but maybe the bolt isn't hitting right to feed a round from one side of the mag. I had this happen on a different rifle once. Ended up being a problem with a bad bolt.
