i am deciding to get a new rifle to get but i am not sure which to get, its between a Springfield 1903 or a German K98, which of these two is generally considered more accurate.

Marines were trained to hit a man size target out to 800 yards with the 03.

Bore condition being equal, with good quality ammo, I'd give a slight edge to the '03 because of the cartridge.

If you're talking about a M1903A3 with an apeture sight, then the 03A3 will usually spank other bolt actions, with the exception of the 1917.

I like the 1903A1's I got!

I voted Mauser just to play devil's advocate. I mean the mauser is a very accurate rifle as well and I believe the Brits had an assassination plan on Hitler that involved Brit snipers using Mausers not enfields or 1903s to snipe at Herr Hitler

Just remember that the surplus supply of 8mm is drying up and getting expensive. 30 06 can still be had very resonably from the CMP. My 1917 Enfield is more accurate than my 1903 or K98.

It's about a 50/50 split between my 98 and 03's but i favor the 03 more on the accuracy end.

I would say the 1903, not because its a better or more accurate rifle, but on condition. K98's with very good bores are tough to find, unless you stumble on some nice vet bring back and then you don't want to shoot those.

They are both nice rifles, so I don't think there is a bad decision there.

Maybe, but remember what Private Jackson from Saving Private Ryan said, "if you was to put me and this here sniper rifle anywhere up to and including one mile of Adolf Hitler with a clear line of sight, sir... pack your bags, fellas, war's over. Amen"

And he carried a 1903....well a 1903A4 anyway.

Tere are other fine commercial bolt guns.

As for milsurp bot guns, the 2 on my list are the Mosin M39, and the K31.

if that was really the case, I imagine that was probably due to wanting to make it look like an inside-job or some similar motive (it would be easier to sneak in disguise to a close-enough proximity to take a shot at Hitler while carrying a German rifle rather than a distinctly American or british one), rather than any inherent accuracy issues.

yeah I'd suggest K31 as another alternative

I got one for Christmas. It has a two groove bore but let me tell you... I was used to blasting with the 91/30's, Cetme's, AR's and whatnot out to 100yds. That 1903 made me believe I was a good shot again. I haven't been that confident with my shooting accuracy since I was kid plinking around the farm w/ my Rem. 22LR. (scoped)....

Oh yeah I have a M48 and um no I can't hit as good with it....

I think the 03 has better rear sights in both versions. I like the 03A3 better myself. But I think a rifleman who was thoroughly trained in the use of older1903 sights would have far more adjustment options than the German troop with the 98. Plus I think the milsurp 30 06 150 grain is superior to the 8 mm milsurp ammo out there
