I put my CMP Field grade back together today. I'm really happy with it now. I bought it at a local gunshop on consignment from a owner who apparently didn't know that field grade was synonymous with butt ugly.

Here's how it looked from CMP. Great mechanicals and finish, except for the gas cylinder, REALLY beat stock with mismatched wood.

Here's how it looked after deep cleaning the stock with oven cleaner and darkening the buttstock a bit to better match the walnut HGs.

Here it is today with a new Walnut stock Boyd's stock set and new butt plate from Fultons. (That old butt plate was worn almost smooth.) I also refinished the gas cylinder and a few pieces of hardware on it that were showing alot of white steel. Just blasted and mag parked them and then applied some black moly resin. Baked them while I had lunch. Now the looks match it's mechanical condition! Just a simple BLO rubbed finish on the walnut.

I can see how guys get hooked on these. :America:
Now I just need a white lacquer marker for the lettering on the sight knobs.

Just call me obsessive compulsive in my projects.

Hey guys.

If anyone here would like the old three piece wood set from my rifle, you're welcome to it. I can FedEx it anywhere in the USA for $15. It's "Veteren" wood, but still solid. If yours is cracked or something, this is still useable. I believe the HGs are walnut and the stock is birch. I'll throw in the worn butt plate. I re-parked it and oiled it. Half the checkering on it is worn off though. But it is still functional.
First person here to write me wanting it can have it for the shipping. I've learned alot here cruising this forum. My way of saying thanks.
