Currently working on a Romanian AK kit and that barrel retaining-pin isn't moving. Tried the hammer-method first to no avail and then my 12-Ton press until things looked like they were bending. Tried soaking it in Aerokroil. Nope. Attempting to drive it left to right like all the build-sites say but things aren't working. Should I just get another kit and consign this one to the deep?

SOme of the ROmy's don't like to move. My 1st one didn't.
My advice is brace the barrel over a piece of metal with a hole drilled in it for the pin to drop through
Freeze the barrel in your freezer (hide from your wife):icon_wink: overnight
then press it out with a 12 ton hydraulic press. a 1/4 inch extension for a screwdriver kit works to get it started. Some of mine gave off a terrible groan before they moved. The hammer method with penetrating oil will not always work on the Romy's. It only worked on 1 of my 4 kits-- 2 Romy's , 1 Yugo and 1 Polish
Hope this helps

Don't give up you are just using a single method that isn't working
find a friend with a press

Not sure how true this is, but I heard somewhere that the Romys would check their manufacturing tolerances, and if the headspace was off after they were finished, they'd take the rifle back to the press and 'nudge' the barrel into the trunnion (with the barrel pin in) to get the proper headspace. This (if true) may be the reason a lot of Romy barrel pins don't want to come out.

I agree with the freezer deal. I had to do that on both of mine. When you get lots of pressure on it in the press you can give the press a good whack with the hammer and it may just free it up. Strike the bar that the jack rests upon. Worked for me. You may end up having to drill.

If you correctly supported the front trunnion, then nothing else should be touching the press to get bent. Step on is drilling a hole in the press plate so the pin can come out. Line up the hole, support the offset of the trunnion...I used 2 dimes and a nickel I think. bring the ram down on your tool and give it a couple of hard pumps. Then take a big fricking hammer and the the bottom on the press plates or I beam. That'll pop that pin loose if you have everything supported correctly.

My first Romy G didn't want to let go! I ended up using the 50ton press at work and watched the pressure dial go past 30tons(!) before it broke free.
Scared the crap out of me when it did go.:melt:
