"Cheap" and "Armor plate" should never be in the same sentence.....
So what was up with Metro PD making an assault on the day care center 'cause two guards had handguns?

Sorry man, I'm really not trying to crap on your thread, I just have an extremely low opinion of DC and it's gov't and police dept. Yeah, I know there are some good ones in there, but I also remember when they were hiring felons in the 80's.
I think you would be a great addition to a dept. here in VA.....

I didn't think civilians could buy plates? Have they changed policy on that?

Cool Present. I'd maybe frame it and hang it in your room. That's the kinda cool thing you could hang up in the bar you open up after retiring from the Police.
I wouldn't get the plate.

it's amazing what you can do with a few pieces of metal, some kevlar matting and some pop rivets.
1 plate of steel, 1 layer of kevlar, 1 plate, ect ect. until it is at the thickness you want and the weight you can safely operate in.

You can get metal scraps from your local sheet metal shop, if you can, try to get 41 30 steel, it is really hard stuff!

in conjunction with about a level III or ballistic soft armor behind them. I don't think they are as effective without the soft armor.
"didn't think civilians could buy plates? Have they changed policy on that?"
Uh, I've seen SAPI plates for sale on this forum and others, as well as soft armor.
As far as buying direct from the manufacturer, I don't think the populace can.
(I have to refer to civilians and police differently, since the LEOs are also civilians by definition...not like soldiers, who can use the term 'civvies' as intended.)

i ment the soft armor. but yea, marion barry and the top cop at the time did alot of good, but fenty and lenier are a bit better (though d.c. politicans are by far the worst i've lived under, and in CT, we have some dusys).
