I've never been much for AR rifles but with most likely new legislation coming after Nov i figured I'd put one together. What i have so far is this. It's a Spikes Tactical lower and upper housing, DPMS parts kit and Tapco T-6 stock.

At this point I'm trying to figure out which way to go so i need some advice/recomndations/suggestions. Should i pick up a bolt assembly and charging handle then a barrel and remaining parts or find a complete upper barrel and all. I've been told to piece it would be cheaper but is it worth it?
BTW thanks KnobCreek for the tutorial.
Seems to me that piecing it together would be more if your ordering parts online...I don't know if you are. Shipping charges add up fast. CMMG had a deal on used AR's a little while back, something like $500-600 for a complete rifle. Since you already have the lower, I would opt for a complete upper that's already headpaced and ready to drop in. Just my own opinion though.
Nice looking lower too

Yeah, I'd probably go with a complete Upper from one of the various online places. Have it shipped right to you.

Any recommendations? I guess i can keep the upper housing around as a spare.

Del-Ton Uppers (http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Barrel_Assemblies_16_Del_Ton_Barrel_Assembli es_s/28.htm)
Any of these are good. I like the 16"...there are longer ones, but I think the 16" looks good with the collapsable stock
you could always build the other upper in a different configuration and swap it out when you want, or trade it out for something.
I'd like to get a 9mm upper+components to swap out on one of my AR's when I want, or a heavy barreled varmint upper with a nice scope. Options are there.

Del ton upper chrome lined barrel. Comes with feedramps cut into upper and barrel is torqued to spec "like it matters." I built mine b/c I wanted too. Very easy, but I will admit it came out to be about the same price as a complete upper. I only made 3 different orders... Lower, upper, barrel and various upper parts del ton. Stock and complete bolt and charging handle from bravocompany. Trigger group from AIM b/c they have some nice C products 30 rnd mags for $10...

Used a plastic kitchen cutting board sawed in half with my vice to torque barrel. Flat top.

I didn't even think of that, A heavy barreled varmint upper sounds cool.
I checked out Del-Ton yesterday and their uppers are real reasonable so i think I'll go that route, I just have to squeeze some extra coins in for the chrome lined barrel. Thank's guys!

Oops sorry, I picked up a 16" pre ban chromed lined barreled flat top from Del-Ton and added a ARMS flip up rear sight. Just need to pick up a sling and of course more ammo.
