I have a FAL that will fail to eject spent brass. The problem only happens when I shoot some types of surplus ammo. The brass stays on the chamber and I have to pry it out. I cleaned the weapon before initially shooting it and after having this problem. I am wondering if there is a problem with the FAL since the ammo in question works with out a flaw in my CETME and FR7. When I shoot Wincherter or Federal factory ammo through the FAL I do not have this problem. With iron sights and the factory ammo I am getting acceptable grouping at 100 yds. I am hesetant to shoot the weapon until I know what the problem is ammo or the FAL? Any help or ideas are greatly apperciated.:America:

have you adjusted the gas system?

also, just for info's sake, the failure you're describing would be failure to extract since you have to pry it out of the chamber.

Does the bolt move at all? Or is it all locked shut. If the bolt moves, and leaves the case there, maybe its an extractor or extractor spring issue. I'm no FAL expert though

Put the gas system on "1" then tell us how far the brass shoots out.

Also, is this a US made barrel with a .308 chamber vs. a military barrel with a 7.62 NATO chamber?

As other's suggested, close your gas a little bit.

Is this a home build or did you buy it finished? I home built mine, sent it off to a general gunsmith that had no FAL exp., and I had the same problem. With the exception of mine was all single shot with stuck shells. My problem was worked out over on the FAL files as being the gas tube was not in all of the way and the roll pin was not in. I would check that, I'd check my piston and gas tube to make sure they are tight and that there is enough movement to cycle, I'd also note which ammo works. I know that Barnaul steel in not welcome in my FAL, due to excessive chamber warping making it unable to extract. It actually broke my charge handle (well I did trying to get the case out). Just a little info, by no way an expert, but I have had some schooling in the hard knock way.

The prying of the brass concerns me. What ammo is having this problem?

Many run our gas on the ragged edge since a FAL that is light on gas is a real pussycat to shoot now that said it is a known condition that if your gas is set for Port or Aussie and you switch to SA that you will have to close it off another 1-1-1/2
To cycle the SA. Just a difference in pressure pulse.

More info please.

The waepon is a Hesse FALO, I did not know about Hesse issues prior to purchase... Shame on me. Thanks for the input adjusting the gas pressure fixed the problem. The surplus ammo was South African. I must have gotten one of the good Hesse based FAL's because ovre the last two days I have gone through 200 or so rounds without any problems. Thanks again for al of your help.

Most of the "Factory" Hesse's were good running guns. I loved and miss my "falo" The only thing I ever noticed was most have a large locking shoulder in them (.270+).
