I have done a FEW searches and cant come up with any concrete advice....

I am in the fledgling stages of my build, havent even bent the blank yet.

Can I use a MIG welder to install the front trunion to the receiver?

What wire to use? Tips tricks?

hummmm..... i would.
make sure it is bare metal and maybe preheat the trunnion with a torch or a candle even.

Mine is welded with mig...Then again I tend to do that to a lot of things. I use plain old 70 series wire.

What he said! I used a 3/8 end mill to mill through the receiver down to the trunnion. Then heat the hole and trunnion with a propane torch using a pencil point tip. Then plug weld with mig. I think it makes a good weld.

Tig is the way to go, not so much heating, so less distortion is always best!

I think either method would work, just either way you need to pick the proper wire filler, and get the power settings right on the welder. Remember these were spot welded at the factory together orginally thus there was plenty of heat to go around when welded no matter what. Migs are great for welding sheet metal for sure, especally one with gas over flux core. Either way all you are doing is feeding wire, within a inert gas shield, the mig feeds it automatically, and the wire is the electrode too, the tig has the inert tungston electrode and you feed the wire by hand, but same gas used to shield the weld. I think most gas feed migs can be converted to tig. Just watching the welders do their thing here at work with the tigs always impresses me.

If I recall correctly my cetme has about eight welds to the trunnion...8,10,2,4 o'clock front and rear. I elected not to weld in the gaps where the trunnion seats against the rails. The original receiver section didn't have it so my build did not. My barrel was in the trunnion and pinned before installation because I didn't want the hole in my receiver. The tutorial stickies at this forum are top notch for information on these rifles and were of great help in getting the rifle up and running. My hat is off to this forum and the folks here.....and a little picture of my baby.

Nice build, but I would weld in the rear part of the trunion, this will give you a more solid platform. HK-91's are. The orig Cetme's were a production line item, short cuts can apply to these too.

I used an endmill and then Mig welded them... not a big deal.

You can view pics on weaponeer.net in the G3/Cetme section if needed, but like I said.. it's not a big deal.
