I stopped at my local gun store and this little bugger followed me out the door. I thought it was kinda neat...looks sort of like a mini luger in .22. The only thing it says on it is Ruger...so I assume it's a Mark 1 cause it doesn't say anything else like mark II or anything.
Anyhow, I took it out and ran 3 mags though it without any problems at all. Sweet little shooter, pretty darn accurate too. With the price of ammo going up I'm looking more and more at .22's just for plinking.
Only thing I didn't like was I took it apart to clean it and it took me about 2 hours to get it back together. Long story, but it makes sence now...you know how that can go.;)

The Luger grip angle is the best anyone ever made. It creates a natural feel so that point shooting is a lot more accurate than most.
Plus one for the ammo costs. My 10-22, bull-barrel, silhouette stock is fun to shoot. Boring though, too accurate.:lol2:

That a Ruger standard pistol, or MK1, standard. It was the plain jane ruger pistol that really made the company. I only have target variants, never picked up one of the standards(note non adjustable iron sights and short tapered barrel). They are good pistols, orginally like 35 bucks, I remember they used to be under a hundred when I got into shooting in the eighties.
I have a few of these things, a Mk 1 target, a mk II target with 10" bull barrel, a MkII goverment, and a Mk II 1976 bicentential pistol. They are great shooters. The Mk I was the first pistol I ever bought. It will last along time after me too even with thousands and thousands of shots.
As for getting them back together its a little tricky with the way they lock back together.

Go to Rugers website, I think they still offer owners amnuals for free.
Tip: Use a paper clip to get that little takedown lever open without scratching the finish.

Thanks for the info guys...went to the ruger website as suggested and down loaded a manual. The gun is pretty simple to take down now that I know what I'm doing, but at first I couldn't figure out that there is a hammer strut that has to go into the mainspring plunger. You can't hardly see it when putting it together. If it doesn't go in properly the bolt won't open. You got to get it in blind and you can't really see if it's going in or not. But like I said now that i'm aware of it it's no problamo, but it took a while to figure out what was going on at first.
I do really like the feel of this gun. It's got a great balance...it's just got a really nice feel. Sometimes you get certain guns that just "feel right" if you know what I mean. I'm betting a real Luger would feel the same to me.

Rampager, there was a solution to the problem of the take down lever by the copy cat gun, the Ramline exactor, they replaced the lever with a allen head screw, the rest of the pistol is almost identical but they come with 14 rd magazines too.

And wasn't everyone's first pistol a Mark I?

And wasn't everyone's first pistol a Mark I?
A friend of mine, hosted a afs student from iceland, the guy was obsessed with firearms(as they cant get them there) and talked me into getting my first pistol, so he could shoot it. I hunted thur bunches of ravens, and jennings, decideing they were too much junk, even at one third of the price of my used mk I target, and they were new, I havent regretted spending the extra hundred for the nicer pistol.

my irst pistol was a CZ-82. Never owned a MK1, though Id love to. It will more than likely be my next pistol purchase.... Im hooked on rimfires... mostly due to th joy of plinking and of course you cant beat ammo cost.

Actually, what you have is the Standard Model. That is the first handgun that Sturm & Ruger produced. It originally came with a red medalion on the grips but that was changed to black after Sturm died in the first few years of their association. The original price was $37.50.
The Mark I was a 5-1/2" heavy barrelled target version with adjustable sights, that was produced beginning in the late 1950's and cost around $50.00 if I recall correctly. It also was available with a tapered barrel about 6-7/8" long and adjustable sights.
The Mark II was an improved version of the Mark I produced beginning sometime in the 1970's.

I've added some wood grips to mine. I like the feel of it even better now with the thumb rest.
