I have been keeping an eye on the post of Texlurch's build of the 24" AR. As some of you know, I shoot a lot of prairie dogs and use mainly heavy barrel bolt guns so I figured I would build an AR and was going to ask who had the better kits between Model 1 Sales and M & A Sales, but then this gun jumped up on the radar:

The Vulcan Arms gun has a Wilson barrel with the E2 stock I wanted and I could care less about the trigger as it will be replaced with the Chip McCormick unit. The scope and rings would go to E-bay as well.
My question to you is which way would you go? I need some answers from guys that own and shoot AR's as I am lost and need solid information from the members. In other words, I value your opinions more than people on other forums that have a tendancy to blow smoke. Thanks in advance for the help.

It is a aramid carbon fiber, syntheic lower(warrning, danger will robinson, plastic) which my confidance is not high in, looking at that photo, there seem also to be a huge gap between the upper and lower(picture 2). The gap is not going to be condusive to accuracy. I am not sure if my dislike for the carbon fiber/synthetic lowers is justified but they are not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling at the stress area where the buffer is screwed to the lower. Seems to almost too good of a deal to be true in some ways, Just my two cents on this.
P.S. Isn't vulcan a division of hesse or what is left of Hesse.
Another thought came to mind on the synthetic receiver, how well will the threads on the buffer tube will fair. I know you can make farirly tough aluminum, but carbon fiber/plastic is still just that.

Something doesn't look right on the second picture. It looks like the carrier is too small or the upper is too big. From what I recall, the bolt carrier should be tight up against the ejection port. It looks like there's a gap all the way around the bolt.

I would have to pass on that Vulcan.. too many questions
And I don't see where it says it is a Wilson barrel.
M&A or Model 1 have been good to me so far, just depends on options you want. M&A states that they can not do any fluted barrels, and the stock and grip I wanted were higher cost add on's.

Try one that uses a piston instead of the regular kind that use the gas.

Got e-mail back from Vulcan saying that the upper is thicker and does not have as large an ejection port as a normal receiver to make it stiffer for the heavy barrel. Also confirmed that the barrel was a Wilson and that the lower was alloy and not "plastic".
Does anyone have any experience with this company?
Isn't Vulcan the rebirth of Hesse?
Between Model 1 and M&A, who has the better parts kits?

I think that I read that both of those companies were related as far
as, person "A" owns one, and person "A's" inlaw owns the other. I may
be wrong, but from personal experiance on M&A Parts, they are great
shooters. I built three heavy stainless target models, one with a 20",
and two with 24" barrels, with Black Hills, blue box, 55gr soft point and
UMC 55gr FMJ ammo, they would print 3/4" to 7/8" inch groups, right
out of the box. I worked up loads using 55gr Nosler Ballistic tips and
Sierra 60gr Varminters that would easily do "five round touching" groups.
That was regular target barrel kits put together on Bushmaster and
Lauer lowers using the trigger parts that came in the kits. I had no
problems at all with the company as everything was included and fit, so
there was no need to call them. Call M&A Parts, get it together and
start busting targets.
eta, those were 100 yard groups.

This (http://akpartskits.com/store/index.php?cPath=5_9&osCsid=7ffed9ad84a310e4b8e0b05988561f46) is the commercial side of their operation.
I bought the A3 flat top for $369 and a Superior Arms lower for $95.
I tricked it up, slug lapped the bore, bought a decent scope and it has rained every day since I got it done. :wallbash:
I'm dying to get it to the range. Forecast is for the rain to finally end AND CHANGE TO SNOW!:wallbash:
On the positive side, when the snow stops, temps will be in the balmy 30's and 40's :wallbash:
It was sunny and got up to 81 last week. :icon_cry:
I'm dyin' here! :xyxnervous:
