i have recently bought a Rossi .357.a friend bought it new,put about 42 rounds through it,dry fired it a few times and broke the hammer nose.i bought it for about $100 less than he paid for it, repaired the hammer nose and it works fine,it shoots like sh@*.

every shot is low right.at about 20 ft it is about 6 inches low right of point of aim.everyone shoots about the same with it so its not me.
ask a guy at the range last night about his smith and wesson 2 inch barrel.said he just got it but he wasnt very good with it yet.

the question is does anyone notice an issue with thier 2 inch barrel guns?

or should i have the muzzle recrowned? it doesnt look to have any issue that would cause a problem, but something has be causing this.

If I can hit a body size target at 20 yards with my SP101, I'm going good in MY book. These weapons are belly guns for close range. Of coarse you know that. I am quorious myself if there is a way to accurise these weapons for better grouping.
Sound off you guys, I'd like this answer myself.

personally, 25 yards with a 2 inch .357 is about my limit...with magnum loads. center of mass shots slowfire is all that i can expect...with .38 standard loads maybe a little tighter grouping...

as far as the Rossi goes, and I may be stepping on some toes here...but I've never had much use for them. i've always considered them to be in the "throw-down" catagory...sorry if that hurts someone's feelings...

anyways, i've always been of the mind that when i carry a 2 inch revolver, it's great if i'm grappling with the idiot, but anytime else it'll put their head down until i can get back to the car and get the long gun out...

now a 3 inch revolver is a different story...there's a world of difference in the ballistics and accuracy between 2 inch and 3 inch models..IMHO

ready to receive criticism...

...

my toes dont hurt.i know the gun isnt top of the line, lets be honest its probably not in the middle either.i bought it cause i knew the history since it was new,i was helping a friend pay his bills, and it was almost half price.

the rossi has gotten quite a few bad reviews, mostly on the hammer nose issue.have also heard of delaminating boresfunny thing is, rossi is owned by taurus and made in the same plant.the taurus is a better firearm:icon_confused:

just for the record,i am not looking to use this thing for 50 yard shots but it would be nice to go to the range and hit the 4x4 steel 25 yards away with at least one shot outta six.

Ammo?

With my snubby Smith (M60) It shoots dead on with 158gr Semi jac HP's in 357 Mag.

I have also tried 125gr 38+p and 158gr 38 LSWC and they shoot low...(recoil effect, no seriously).

AS far as the r/l impact...could be sites, could be shooter. And I don't mean that dispariagingly. Every body that shoots my Smith with boot grips, pulls it right but slap on the oversized rubbers and it shoots straight.

Just food for thought.

I own a Rossi .357 2" barrel, model 461. I love it so far. I bought it with the misconception that snub nose accuracy was limited to maybe 15 yrds. I got it for a concealed carry/ self defense gun. Any way, I suck at shooting it! Sure I could hit someone in the torso from across the room, thats about it.

I was VERY surprised to see how accurately Jfowl could shoot that thing. He was consistently hitting targets at 60 yrds in single action. I need more practice.

same exact gun in question.the 461.so dont get discouraged about how you are shooting it.i have had 5 different people shoot mine and they all say the same thing.it shoots low right of point of aim.the sights sre non-adjustable,so why does it shoot like that?
i dont know figured someone here could give me an idea.

I have a S&W 19 with a 2.5" barrel, and it shoots almost as tight at 25 yards as my 19 with a 4" barrel, so it's not necessarily endemic to the short barreled revolvers.

I'd try different bullet weights first off, that will change POI. I got my wife an EAA Windicator for Valentines day with a 2" barrel and it will hit a coke can at 50' almost all day with my 357 reloads but if doesn't like WWB 38's at all.

yep, don't let the reviews fool you, that gun is stinking accurate. Sucks to hear that yours is not hitting POA, but I bet it holds a nice group where it hits.

I was knocking down 8" plates with it at 60 yards in single action............ I think I might just pick one up when my stimulus check finally comes in for a good knockaround truck gun.

SINCE its hitting low, you can file the front sight a tad to bring up the POI, and if its threaded perhaps you can turn it back off just a tad to fix the right impacts. But I suspect once you get it hitting high enough, a little Kentucky windage is an easy fix.

I love that gun though, its damn comfy for such a small gun.

we have shot 3 types of .357 and one guy at the range used his .38 rounds.the .38 shot the same as the .357.this leads me to believe its the gun,3 types of ammo, over 8 different shooters and it always shoots the same.i am taking it to my favorite gun shop tomarrow and trade it off for a stainless S&W .357 to match the 629 i bought a few weeks ago.
