Would someone mind giving me a tutorial on how to clean out the flutes on a CETME thoroughly. Also, what do you guys like to use (solvents, etc.) to clean your CETME and lubricate it? Thanks in advance for the info.

JG,
The best thing to use for cleaning the flutes is a .308 chamber brush.
Most people just use a .45 cal or .410 cleaning brush because they are cheaper.
Brake cleaner is a good solvent for cleaning with, but it can harm the finish.
I personally use Hoppes #9 to clean with. gun oil on the rollers, and white lithium grease on the bolt carrier.

E&L has a really nice HK91 cleaning combo kit with a Chamber Face Brush, Receiver Brush & Knurled Rod for $24.95.

Dumb question. Does the entire carrier need to be greased?

I grease any surface that shows wear, so a good portion of my carrier does get grease. The only wear part I don't grease is the rollers themselves, but that's just me.

I use "shooter's choice" to clean, and Remoil and White Lithium Grease.
Shameless plug here for shooter's choice......Ive tried a ton of different cleaners, and have found no cleaner that is near the solvent that this stuff is. It pulls out copper, soot, powder..... you name it. I cleaned my Glock with no. 9, and then again with CLP, and a week later, with no shooting in between, I cleaned it with Shooter's Choice, and it pulled out so much crap, I gave away the other solvents and use it ritually now.
Its potent stuff and stinks to high Heaven, but by golly it works. With my rifles that will hunt deer, I have to rinse the smell off of em real good, or Ill never have a chance in hell if Im up wind.

I use carburator cleaner to spray out the entire inside of the reciever, and the trunion/chamber area. let it sit a sec, wipe it down. then I use a .45 bore brush to scrub the flutes just in case the carb cleaner didnt get it. then apply small amounts of grease to all the contact surfaces, swab a couple of oil patches through the barrel, and put a drop of oil on each of the rollers (as per the CETME manual). that's basically it for me
+1 to what hunter_la5 said. I will add this helpful tip though. Pick up a tube of Dow Corning G-n paste. You won't find it at Walmart, Gander Mountain, Cabela's, etc as it's a bit obscure. You can find it on Ebay from time to time at about $9.00 a tube. It's a Mil-Spec MoS2 grease that is second to none in that price range. It is excellent for greasing where metal-to-metal moving surfaces mate. I discovered it when I worked in the Reliability Engineering department of a Defense contractor back in the 80's. Use sparingly and it will stain clothing upon contact. I haven't found anything that'll get it out once entrained in fabric. A tube lasts me about 5 years and I use it a lot.

I use CLP and some blue grease that was given to me by a friend. It is in a small container and was originally used as bearing grease on aircraft wheels. You wanna talk about some slick stuff, just a small speck goes a long ways.

I only grease the wear points, and a bunch at the end of the tube where it wears in the cocking tube.

You guys clean your Cetmes?????? :wow:
I strip the rifle, including the forearm, but leaving the cocking lever and plunger.
Have the mag well face up and barrel elevated, and spray the inside of the receiver, trunnion , and chamber. With 1stayd brake and metal parts cleaner.
Give the chamber a scrubbing with a .45 bush, and then rinse again with the brake cleaner.
Clean the barrel as normal
Then a spray the receiver trunnion and bolt carrier with a heavy duty silicone lube. The lube goes on as a liquid and then drys to a thin non stick film.
I lube the locking piece and rollers with hoppes gun oil.
And put a drop onto the cocking plunger.
This way seems to work out the best for me.
Because the rifle stays cleaner longer, and when you need to clean it next time its doesnt take as long.
I do this with my ar too, and it works very well.
