Kansas City, North of the river.

BTW: There's a good Missouri shooting/CCW site at http:www.missouricarry.org, if anyone's interested. It's a good group.

Moderators: I'm new here, and don't know the policy on talking about 'other' forums. If this is inappropriate, let me know, and delete it.

know of any good ranges close to KC? i was going to the parma woods range and then one day the range guy walks up when im shooting to check my ammo, since it was FMJ he says i cant shoot it. This is an outdoor range! he cited its dangerous for richochets! I guess they think the bullet will go downrange 100yds into the dirt pile and come back and hit someone. There can be absolutely no pull on a magnet he said, so my softpoint hunting ammo that has a thin steel layer around the base of the lead couldnt even be shot. All that wolf ammo is bimetal too so I cant use it. And im sure not going to shoot heavy ball in my semi autos. Ive heard thats bad to do on a regular basis.

So now i cant shoot any ammo with steel in it, which leaves me with just 8mm rifle.

If you're shooting at parma woods, you can't be too far from me.

I typically shoot at Pigeon Hill. It's about an hour north, up around St. Joe. Unmanaged MDC range, they have a shotgun range (bring your own everything), 25, 50, and 100 yard pistol/rifle ranges, and a 'special use' area that they let people run classes and so forth on. There are decent concrete benches, and 'construction fence' target holders, and not much else.

As with any unmanaged range, you are your own safety officer. On a few occasions, I've seen some idiots down there shooting they're HiPoint 9's sideways. I just run up the road and have a cup of coffee, they'll blow through their one box of ammo pretty quick.

Still, it's not a bad place to shoot. Nobody bothers you about rapid firing, or working from a holster, ammo type used, etc. There's a MDC officer that drives through a few times a day, but as long as you're not destroying anything, he pretty much leaves you alone.

MDC link is to their page... directions are on the site.

Pigeon Hill Conservation Area is east on Highway 169 (off I-29) to Route O. From O, turn west on Route FF and watch for the cantilever sign.

Basically, if you know where the St. Joseph landfill is, you're there. Same rode, further south.

Anybody want to plan a range day?

Nothing much to plan from my end... I'm up there most Saturday mornings, if the weather is decent.

Let's see, May 12 I have a shoot on the other side of the state... and the 5th is probably bad for me... I could make any Saturday or Sunday after the 13th.

I just found this thread. Lifelong Missourian here! I see there are a lot of Kansas City folk here. Add me to that list too, north of the river! I moved up here last summer so I'm pretty new and always looking to make new "gun friends".

I heard another guy say southeast Missouri and that's where I've lived pretty much my whole life. I'm from a town of 350 people, so KC is a big change for me. I'm used to stepping out on my back deck and shooting rifles.

When it warms up, I'm all for a range day.

Just relocated from Pennsylvania, well, last fall. Just north of KC. Back home it seems like every township has a sportsmans club with a range, but they are scarce out here. Looks like Pigeon Hill is the closest range to me.
Its between KC and St Joseph off I-29. Non staffed. Has any one shot at or been a member of the Pioneer Club?

My dad is about to be working in Missouri for a little while. He works for a construction company called Embrey, and they are sending him there to build a pre school I think.

He'll be in the KC area, I think a town called Independence. So if you see that project or live near it, and see a bald guy driving a 4-door long bed Blue diesel Dodge, that's my Pops.

It really sucks for my mom... he was in Dallas, then Houston, now he's going to Georgia for a week to do a quick remodel, then maybe to Kentucky for a week, then up to Missouri for this project.... they told him he'd never have back to back projects away from home..........

that sounds kinda rough.. maybe he will get some projects closer to home.
