This is what I have been working on for the past year and a half.

It started in the fall of 2005 when I saw two TRW op rods at a gunshow for $75.00 a pop. I traded one for new bolt and next thing you know I'm building a rifle. Not at any great speed though. A gas cyl here, rear sights there. By Feb Of 2006 I had ordered an LRB Arms M14 receiver. Always hunting parts though. Gunshows were my friend. Pretty soon my spares were growing spares. Once I got the feel for what new and used parts were going for my hard and fast rule became "If you see a part for less than market value buy it." Even if I already had it, I know I can sell or trade it to someone who has what I want.

The only way I was ever going to be able to afford one of these was a small amount at a time. I've bought an sold so many parts I've got the cost of this thing down to that of a Regular Springfield Armory INC. You can't get one of those with all USGI parts and forged receiver. Of course my time spent was huge but what a way to get to know your rifle.

God help you if you get bit by the USGI parts bug.

I'm doing some last minute jerking around getting parts reparked to match. I hope to be shooting it in a month.

Congrats on the new forum.... who's got M14 parts?

Awesome Rotor, that is a job well done. An all USGI rifle on a LRB is better then any Springfield can turn out at any price....ya done good. How many manufactures do you have in that pile of parts?

Here is my all Winchester USGI I built on an Armscorp receiver, that I got to machine myself :) You doing the build?

My dad keeps talking about getting a '308' semi-auto. I am pushing a M1A cause then I get to shoot it.

That is a neat deal. I never even thought of building a M-14.

It was going to be all TRW until I did recent inspection of the barrel that I had been sitting on for a year. I clearly did not look closely enough when I first got it. Upon really close inspection I found that, while it gauges great, the chrome at the lede was starting to flake. Finding another one of those TRW's is out of the question now.

Soooooooo I am sending it to Krieger for a Criterion Chrome lined GI profile barrel.

The Gas Cyl is AMU screwed and glued. I am just waiting to get the FH back from reaming.

Really did some one say M14 parts???

i second that :!:
i have a Norinco that i have replaced every single part on except the forged receiver, and chrome lined barrel. Every other part is USGI, and boy howdy is that an expensive proposition!!

I say i pitty the fool who has to have a USGI striped walnut presentation stock from freds - that piece of lumber was over 300.00 by itself, but boy it sure is pretty.

id love to take you photos, but my website was hacked, and i dont have it on my hard drive

I always have a eye out for a Norinco or Poly at the right price. To do exactly what you did.

Fill it with more of these babies.

The stock is from Freds but it was not large coin. At least last Jan when I bought it. They do seem to be getting higher now. It was just luck of the draw Big Red walnut for $60.00 or so bucks.

I remember the Norinco M-14 in Gainesville for 350.00. A friend bought one and read that the recevier/bolt was soft. Someone in Shotgun news advertised heat treating for this specific application. What is your opinion on a plain Norinco without any work?

The receiver is forged and has no issues. The bolt is soft. If I bought a Chinese M14, I would send it to a M14 smith for a USGI bolt at minimum.

Norincos and Polys are a buy if you can get one for under $600.00.

I would check head space first. And then again every 500 rds to see if it is moving. When it gets long then send it to a gunsmith to lap in a GI bolt and you will be in fat city. Some chinese gas part threads are metric and certain parts are not interchangeable.

If the deal on the gun is right it is a great base for slowly building a bombproof M14 on.

Commony upgraded parts on Chinese rifles.

Bolts
Rear sights
Stocks
Trigger assy's
Gas system ( chinese are not stainless like USGI)

Barrels and Op rods get good reviews.

A good buy atr the right price for sure.

I have two Polys and both have been converted to USGI parts with the exception of barrels and gas systems. My Federal Ord M1A had all USGI parts when I bought it, but it still does not shoot as well as the Polys.
Rotor, you've got a really nice piece going, I've seen one LRB based rifle at one of my ranges and it is excellent. It'll be time &money well spent.
I would get a good stock from Fred for any M14/M1A I have. I've bought three of the striped uints and all have turned out well with moderate time & labor. But if, and/or when, I do anotherI will use a fake selector switch rather than filling in the stock.
