Anyone know where I can find a 20 round fixed mag for a sks. The particular one I am looking for has a star stamped into the side of it. If anyone knows where I might find one, or would be willing to sell one please let me know. I thought about doing a "D" conversion but, as everyone else thought, theres no good reason to butcher up a perfectly good sks up, especially since mine is in mint+ condition, and I actually have come to really like the fixed mag alot more than the AK setup anyways. It's more solid and rigid than my AK is, plus it just looks great. Thanks for the help everyone!

what i have found on the china 20 round mags is that they are just a little wider than the stock 10 round mag. it is wider where they go into the stock. people just hammer them in place and it will squeeze the opening up a very small amount and the internals cannot move freely and get stuck. usually it will fire 1 or 2 rounds then nothing. what i do on mine is i take a small file and rasp the iside of the stock until the mag will slide in ( fit) and out freely, thus no binding up of the mag internals. over the years i have gotten many new 20round mags really cheap,:icon_biggrin: from guys because they would not work in there sks.
on these a BFH is not :nonono: your friend.

mine didnt have fit or binding issues, it was feeding, for some reason, no matter what i did, every 3rd round would nose down and jam against the front.
thats why i gave up on it, tried bending the follower and playing with the spring, no help. if it were every other round (jamming when feeding from a certain side of the mag), or every round, i think it could have been worked out, but it was a diffrent side each time ???
also, the 2nd stripper was REEEAAALLLLYYYYY hard to load the 2nd half of it.
and fwiw, the ones with the star are chineese, and i think they are the only ones who made 20's

#1 to that. They are "detatchable", but you CAN just leave the bastard in and load it with stripper clips if you want. They feed perfectly, and are smooth and easy to load. I have three stowed away somewhere, that I never use because I like my SKS just the way it is.

iirc, dont 922r regs start coming into play when you put detachable mag in?? kind not worth the trouble/expence of buying all the us parts, imo.

Thanks alot everyone, I am very satisfied with my fixed 10, but am still interested in finding the 20 rd. mag. If anyone who didn't like theirs wants to get rid of it, please let me know. I want it for collectors purposes, I only use my 10 rd./strippers when I shoot them, I've scoured the internet and have come up empty handed. I'm probably just SOL!
you could try getting a hold of the guy that runs sksman .com he may be able to put you on a list or give you a heads up when he comes across 1. he's a little pricey. but treated me fair in the past.

I have the exact mag that "MILSURP" sent me the link on, I appreciate it though, I've actually never had any luck with it,"common feeding problems", thanks for the feedback and help!

Automan, I found mine for five bucks in the bottom of a gun case at a small Pawn shop here in oklahoma, It was pure luck as he had it under a pile of saiga and five round ak mags. Just keep looking everywhere, if you go to a show, look at the junk piles on the tables there. On the "detachable ones" the only one I thought much of in the steel ones, was the plain as crap one from dc engineering. Looks like it was home made almost but seems to fit far better than any of the stamped duckbills out there.
Once in the day, I had some cobray mags, that were truely detachable, but never installed one, as you drilled and tapped a hole below the chamber to add the mag keeper.

I always heard the Chinese "star mags" were the best of the breed. I can see how some Nimrod with a BFH could screw one up though.
I don't think 922r will kick in unless you have more than one "evil" feature. With factory stock, no FH and no Bayo, a detachable mag should not get you crosswise with Uncle Sugar.
On a side note, I was talking with a local BATF agent last week. He said he has never heard of anyone being prosecuted for a 922r violation. They occasionally use it for an enhanced sentence in cases like Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
I know, no one wants to be the first one prosecuted but if you are otherwise a law abiding citizen, I would not sweat it (much).
