Just got back from the range. Shot the 50 for the first time! These things truly are a handful! The recoil is really not that bad but what gets you is the concussion. It is like something exploding in your face but not harming you.
It is a Ligamec Ultra Lite 50 AR upper 29in. barrel with a lower that I made myself out of steel. I had it pretty well dialed in on a 1in.thick 18in. gong at 550 yrd's. it would put about a 3/4 in. dent in it with a 1/4 dimple in the back side but wouldn't quite shoot through it with ball ammo.

No I shot it off my little adjustable rest. I am thinking I need to build something like one of those Lead Sled things. I let some other guys shoot it. No one wanted to shoot it more than twice. One smaller guy shot it and he had a real funny look on his face, and was rubbing his face. I thought the scope got him and ask if it hit him. He said no but it sucked the wind out of him and he had trouble catching his breath.

There seems to be some inbreeding down in Florida, possibly fathered by Serbu. The Safety Harbor Firearms R-50 appears to have the same barrel, shroud, and brake. I know that the both Walter Keller (SHF) and Marcos Ruiz (Ultralite) are former Serbu employees. I know Serbu, Anzio, SHF, and Ultralite are all about 15 miles from each other. I don't know if there was a working relationship between Anzio and Serbu, or who was first.

I shot one once, that brake did a great job of reducing recoil. The guy offered to let me shoot more, but his shells were marker(?) shells, Gave a small expolsion of light to show where you had hit. And they were costly. I didn't want to use his expensive ammo so I declined. But I would have liked to shoot it more. Recoil was certainly no more than an M44. Nice looking rifle there.

I had an oppertunity to shoot one of the Anzio rifles, and WOW.
I am saving my pennies, dimes, 50's etc to buy one.

Steve, so what you built is just a really simplified ar lower, with just the fcg and a thread for a butstock(I imagine you dont even need the recoil buffer or springs at all there either)?

Yes it's pretty simple. The only AR parts are the trigger, trigger spring, safety, and the hammer spring as the hammer is different and came with the upper. The hard part was cutting the threads in the butt stock block. I did that first out of a square block in my 4 jaw chuck and then cut it down from there. I built the pins that hold the lower on out of 1/4 drill rod and tapped each end for 8-32 button head allens. The OD of the allen screws are .305 so they hold the pins in. I didn't want to have to try to figure out the detents for the stock pins. I am going to build some pins for the trigger group the same way with 5/32 pins and 4-40 screws. I also have to finish the safety and Park it. It was a lot of work but I just didn't like the way the AR lower looked with the mag well and all the extra junk on it. And this one is a lot stronger. Some guys are using a Calif. lower they don't look too bad but they are pricier than a regular AR lower.

Anzio has some nice stuff....I want one of those 20mm setups they got. $3200 for the suppressor so I think I'll do without but the rifle is within reach...I just have to work 4 years without spending money on other guns to get it :boing:
Your 50 looks alot better than mine....mine is still a pile of parts and blueprints.
