This ia almost a current events topic, but it deals with history, historic topics, ethical and truthful teaching of history, etc. The thread title is a quote from a historian. It also shows Political correctness gone awry in the UK.

Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial. [:thebird:]

There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.

The report concluded: "In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship."

But Chris McGovern, history education adviser to the former Tory government, said: "History is not a vehicle for promoting political correctness. Children must have access to knowledge of these controversial subjects, whether palatable or unpalatable."

Couple of years ago I would have not been able to believe that, but now I just bang my head on the dask till I hurt and go on. History is just that, leave it alone and teach it the way it happened.

We are going to end up in camps like that someday if we let these manics have here twisted views put on an equal footing as the truth. Sadly Hitler and his National Socialist Workers party are looked at as good guys by a fair sized minority in the Moselm world. When you show what they really did when in power it is hard to defend them... So just stop showing the truth and you can a new truth that you like better:adolph:

Steely, help me out on this one. If I remember my history, the Muslim empire was forged not in trading or in friendship, but with the sword, and was built by warriors with a message that Allah was the one true god, and if you didn't like it, you were killed. The empire was always divided and fought within itself, but these factions expanded the empire to at one time as far west as Spain, east to Asia, south into the north half of Africa, and as far north southern Mongolia. Conquests were made to take the religion and serve as slaves.

If anybody is going to be upset, it should be these students, especially after they learn about their true history of oppression, slavery and murder when their empire was great.

That seems to be why history repeats itself. If they don't teach the truth because it's not a pretty picture or may offend someone then who will remember past mistakes. I remember when they taught the beginning of time as per religion and as per science then told us that we would have to decide for ourselves as to which one we would believe in. But back then we were taught to think for ourselves and we prayed and said the pledge of allegiance to the flag at the beginning of school each morning.

Dat's about right. You could also convert. Whan they movd into Spain, portugal, france, etc, they were content to make revenue and not fore conversions...but non-muslims were second-class citizens with diff laws and less rights. This is happening now in the philippines.

The inquisition was designed to rid W. Europe of the muslim stragglers, and it worked except for the muslim outpost of Morrocco. Oh, and France wouldn't get entirely on board, so now they have to deal with a lotta muslims in their country. Anyhow, the church, regaining strength, got rid of any othr undesireables during the same period. when they were gone, Europe experienced the Renaissance, age of Reason, etc...tellsya how bad it got with the Islamists in power.
