View Full Version : .308 French MAS 36
Anyone ever had a MAS 36 in .308? If so, did you have any accuracy or function problems? I'm looking at one and so far the research is not very favorable for these Century .308 conversions.
The one I'm looking at appears brand new...stocks, finish etc. The only thing is the forend rattles pretty bad. I've read this is where the "Hack Job" by Century removed some stock shims. I've also read the chambering process was a little less than favorable as far as accuracy goes. Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have one, the price was right for sure, but have never shot it, my stock rattles too, not sure if its due to the fact they pulled the barrel back slightly when they rechambered the rifles from my understanding or took out shims.
The price though was why I picked one up and it was it great shape for sure.
This one is $200......good deal or not?
Thanks,

I gave 120 or so, for mine, maybe two years or more. I think they were around a hundred when century wholesaled them. I would feel its a little expensive but if you want one, as I have said before, they aint making any more either. Just my two cents.
Thanks for the info.

From what I hear, all of these are almost pristine, looking like new or rearly carried, thus if you want a unique 308 rifle they aint that bad. That said I lucked on the rifle at my local shop, shocked the owner that it had the bayonet(he didnt even know it was there)

I've read the same unfavorable research concerning these rifles. I'd say unless you really want one in .308, get an original MAS 36. It'd be more historical, CAI's butchers haven't gotten to it, and it could save you the potential hassle.

The few I've seen have been a lot more than $200.

I guess I do live some where where things are less expensive, but I bought the only one of these I have seen here in town too. Wonder what they are bringing on gunbroker or such.
I'd like 7.5 to go with my MAS 49/56....but on the other hand I would like to keep my calibers the same... .308. Thanks again, I think I hold out for a 7.5 caliber.

that they were used after WWII as DMRs and fitted with a scope, and rechambered to 762x51 NATO...
If it's one of those, 200 seems like a good price.

There are two 308s on GB, for 465 and 580. A lot of 7.5s. One under 200, many around 300 and some over 500. I didn't see anything that said Century.
