I bought a Mauser and wanted to pick up some ammo.

Checked out the local folks Centerfire Systems, Cole Distributing and KY Imports... Nothin'

Where is the best place to get 400 - 500 rounds?

Might have to wait for Knob Creek in a few weeks. :rainbow:

I ordered from AIM last week and I see they're out now. Going to be slim pickings with the beltfed crowd around.

I just got a new SOG flyer today and they are still listing it for $95/900, but I just checked their website and they aren't showing it.

Classic arms is listing Equador 8mm on 5 round strippers. I don't know if this stuff is good or bad though...never tried it.

In 2 months when I move into my new place I'll have a dedicated gun/reloading room finally.

I was talking to the wife of one of the ammo sellers at the show this weekend, she said they almost didnt bring any 8mm due to the fact they are able to sell everything on line, and the supply is drying up. Guess the eastern bloc motherlode is all gone, or just dried up here in the states now.

P.S on this shortage, I don't think you can even blame the us ammo makers as this was a self caused shortage, the rifles come in, creat a demand for the ammo, the ammo gets here, but there is only so much of the stuff out there. Like 30-06 and .303 there aint going to be much more.

I'm glad I took Plannings advice and stocked up on 8mm a few months ago. I'm set for now on it. Now I need to get a few more cases of 7.62x54 while it's still cheap enough.

I just wish I'd have bought more 7.62x51 a while back...got a few cases but I hate dipping into it all the time not knowing if anything good is coming in. I gotta get into reloading, that's all there is to it.

I missed ordering 54R last week but tomorrow I'm putting in a big order. I have no where to put it which gets me a little flack from my better half. I finally got a chance to stock up and am going to do it until I am satisfied.

I was surprised on how scarce 8mm was, this was one reason I bought the guy since I thought ammo was plentiful.

Thanks, I am going to see if any comes up for the Machine Gun Shoot.

 why buy ammo?...........:woohoo-1:

what happen to all the guys " you know who you are"...that were just going to buy ammo and shoot it all up? looks like some of them shot there load........:icon_surprised: :1092:

"there is plenty of ammo!!!!! out there , no problem." :coolp:

when there is no more ammo then we will just have to reload.........:rainbow: er, i need brass....duh.............anyone have brass?......primers???...

:woohoo-1: i am real glad i got mine...................:woohoo-1:

just kidding.......... it's still not to late if you shop around. if you wait until someone post where it is it is usually to late. they are usually sold out.

i understand from one of my vendors there is one large shipment of 7.62 x 39 and 7.62 x 51 coming in this month (april), but it will not last long...........just buy it..........:woohoo-1:

7.62 x 54r is starting to get low at some vendors.......buy it now, today.....while it's cheap....look for it to start to climb in price this month..........

i don't know of any vendor with much of the 8mm left...........or .303

I talked to another vendor, and some vendors have the theory that as long as the wholesalers have stock they will just buy normally, but when the wholesaler gets to a point where there are just a couple of months left of stock, the retailers will then horde the item, wether its a rifle kit, or ammo. When the supply gets low, they want everyth thing they can get their hands on to be the last one with the stuff.

for those who dont know, im the main person he is referring to in most of his comments here. Thats OK, me and planning will NEVER agree on this point.

The act of collecting and HOARDING ammo is not what got me into this sport. The act of SHOOTING my firearms is what got me into the sport, and why i do this. I am not a dealer out to make money off of people, and im not an ammo collector, im a shooter.

And reguardless of what other people say, i WILL shoot my ammo till its all gone. That is what ammo is for! It is not for hoarding.

Thats like buying a car, and hoarding a supply of gasoline but never driving your car cause youre worried about your hoard of gasoline running out! You never get to go anywhere in your car, so whats the point in even having a car if you cant drive it??

Same thing with guns and ammo. What is the purpose in having guns if you cant shoot them??

i shoot my guns - i am a shooter
i dont hoard ammo - i dont worry about it - when the supply dries up, you have to do what most SMART people do - reload.

Its not really much different than gasoline. If gasoline rose to $5.00 a gallon due to supply, and the technology was there to make your own gasoline of better quality for less money, and you couldnt afford the luxury of buying pre made gas, most SMART people would be out in there garage making gasoline - its really no different with bullets and reloading.

And the PEACH about that is that if everyone quit buying the gasoline at $5.00 a gallon, eventually the price would drop back down to where you could afford it and wouldnt need to make your own.

My opinions only - not a flame

Mike

While I was looking for stuff I can't buy, I noticed that 8mm was hard to find. I DO think stocking up is good for a few reasons.

Reason #1. When ya want to go shoot'n it is right @ your finger tips

Reason #2. When it gets scarce you got some you didn't pay out the nose for.

Reason #3. 2 words: Zombie Invasion. :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :zombie:

I like to shoot too, but that's just it.... it just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that I have enough (do you ever really have enough?) 8mm romy and yugo to blast away for serveral years to come :icon_razz:. I'd past up on buying several guns a few months ago in order to assure I'll be shooting my Mausers, Hakims, and M-53 (if I ever get it).

But I think this was planning's point...to stock up so you can shoot your guns, otherwise they are just wall hangers. To me it's not so much hoarding, but insuring your sport, much like buying spare parts in advance before they are no longer available. I can't find fault for a guy speculating, and maybe making a buck if it goes his way (stock market comes to mind). But as for me I don't have enough to sell, just enough to keep me happy for a while.

Now to buy more of that that 54R I've been meaning to get before it disappears or become to expensive to blast with too.

Just my opinion..

sorry mike, it was not aimed at you, i got several guys that sent pm's and there were several guys posting on shooting up all the ammo and reloading later.

my point was not to horde the ammo, but to buy enough of it to have before the prices went sky high and still be able to shoot you guns until the prices come back down again ( i think they will). if you will remember my suggestion was buy as much ammo as you can afford and shoot 1/2 of it and save the other 1/2.

i have bought a lot of ammo over the years as an investment.( so far it has been a good investment)and i will continue to do so. i don't get out to the range much anymore ( i wish i could i would shoot more of it, but not all of it) and then there may be the zombies. i have some ammo set aside for my 4 grandsons for when they get all my guns when i die they will be able to shoot them.

that is why i suggested everyone that shoots 7.62 x 54r buy it now while it is still cheap.
remember this only a suggestion to everyone.. do what you want, but remember i have all the ammo i will every need.................do you?

My local shop has about 30 to 40 boxes (10 rounds a box I think on strippers) of 1950's Czech 8mm for $3.50 a box. I don't know if that is a decent deal or not? Guy who owns the place said he has a good source to get more...although he said that about the wolf .308 that has been out of stock for a month or so.

Best I have seen is 70 Rounds on clips for $11.95. Haven't seen any cases for sale. I have 60 rounds so I am going to see how Betsy shoots before I get too crazy.

I noticed my top handguard is cracked, but I couldn't find much out there even ebay that sold replacement wood stocks. What I found was more than what the gun cost. Can you buy the handguard?

Hold on now. I just got home and there was a message from SOG that there was a problem with my order. Wonder what that means? ( Oh, I'm sorry we're out of that ammo although my computer says we have plenty) I'll post the results when I call tomorrow.

I called and it was a billing error. They mixed up the card #. So they have 8mm at SOG but you have to call.

Well, I picked up 30 round of some stuff marked nywyahn Metak ca teIIIKNM 11-1951 (head stamp has stars and 11 on top and 51 on bottom) to try out my Mauser.

Had 6 rounds not fire the first time around, ran them through again and they worked. Primer contact looked good on the misfires. I think the ammo I got was junk.

My gun shot pretty good groups.

I bet they thought they would never sell that Indian. I have a 1000 rnd's of that crap. The way it's going in a few more years it will be worth a buck a round! Buy all the Indian you can! Just dont shoot it!
