As I am still in Japan and have been extended until December can someone give me the dimensions off an AK barrel for a little CAD project I am working. I want the diameter of the barrel at the gas port along with the length of the area the gas block covers.
I have the idea to design a short stroke gas system ( G-36 ) and mate it to an AK style bolt and carrier. So if anyone that can put hands on a barrel and micrometer could help a brother out it would be appreciated.

P.S. I'd like to model the full length of a barrel if someone was ambitious enough to give dimensions of the whole thing.

What type of AK barrel do you need dimensions for? There are different variations between countries. You might want to check out this link for a good reference:

A Romy will work or a Yugo.
What I'm working on is a design that can be adapted to other calibers useing some of the numerous kits and parts available.
This also has another benefit...
it gives me something to do while I'm in Japan.

The following is a list of reference dimensions for barrel and barrel components for those of you who want to use different components and different barrels on your builds.
All measurements were made as accurately as possible and should fall within + or - .001
.Some were made on stripped barrels and components and some were made on assembled rifles as I didnt want to dismantle them just for measurements.Some were unobtainable,( as in not enough area to measure )All were taken from my personal rifles and kits. I will add to and update this list as I can and intend to post it on as many gunboard BIY forums as possible.
If you have suggestions for other dimensions related to the barrel group feel free to throw it out there. I've spent about 3 days on this and typed it all out on Word, and then copied and pasted it here and everything went to ********. I had everything in nice straight columns and as soon as i pasted it to the reply box, everything went all Mumbo Jumbo.............. For the life of me i cannot figure out how to get everything back into straight columns and i'm tired of Muckin with it. So if anyone knows how, and is willin to straighten this up and make it look a little more professional, be my guest.

Your Welcome. When you cut the barrel just profile it about .005 in front of the rear sight base, gas block and front sight base. There is a step in front of the handguard retainer and chamber area. I look forward to seeing your project.
PS: If you make it stateside, let me shoot it and we will call it even.
