I have a .45 cal rifle, it's .451 across the lands, I slugged it, but I cant get the ".45" sabots I bought to go in. I was thinking of using these, anyone ever tried them?

Those are supposed to be the shiznet. I use .45 hollowpoint pistol bullets in a .50 sabot, and I LOVE the results, but what I've seen of the Powerbelt bullets has me considering switching up.

ive been using hornady 44 cal 210 grain copper jacketed lead tipped hollowpoints in a sabot in my 50 cal and they really knock the deer down, i recovered one that i saw as a bulge under the skin on the deer and it was bigger than a quarter and had nicely peeled back petals like you see on a balistics test. Ive never used a bullet like that above. With iron sights at 100 yds i can consistently shoot the x out of the 10 ring over and over with 135-150 grains of powder.

that is strange the bullet wont fit, you say you slugged the barrel, what does the bullet measure?

The bore is like .455 and the lands are .451.

WBC, I have not tryed them, but I do us sabots in my 50cal . Did you grease them? you still have to grease the hole in the bottom and let some get on the rest of it to load them. Last year at my range a guy broke his ram rod off in his hand try to load sabots .I told him to grease them , he came UN GLULED over the fact that you dont have to. Then thats when he broke the ram rod in to his hand . I let him use my range rod to get it all the way down. After that and a few pints of blood from his bloody hand . He used some of my grease and was having fun again.

I did not grease them, It helped a little. It cuts off small curls of plastic, I just rmembered about my .45 BP pistol, I tried them in it, they went in much better.
I need to get some from BPS I guess.

Buelligan, with all due respect, I have to disagree with you. I've been loading saboted bullets in my BP rifle for years, and have NEVER had the first problem ramming the bullet home. I know that some sabots are made with lower quality material, and therefore aren't as "slick" going down, but if you use the right stuff, you should not have to lube the sabot. It's PVC, for crying out loud. Sounds like your guy was just inexperienced. I can push one home with a green switch. I DO, however, have an aquaintance that uses old school wooden sabots, and he DOES grease them with Crisco. He tells me that they will not go otherwise, so I think we're talking about product differences rather than flaw/error in loading policy.

Oh, and did I mention Obama sucks?

Actually, he doesn't, but he DOES grease them with Crisco

(Sorry, I couldn't resist...)

ive only had trouble loading sabots or large slugs when the barrel was really dirty, after running a lubed patch or bronze brush it would be fine. I was shooting 2F powder though, ive found the pyrodex pellets to be unreliable compared to black powder (ive had some misfires, one when i tried to shoot a deer)

BREWSKIZZIA , You r right some are different ,and he was a newbie ,and told me that becouse he was using PARADEX or synthetic BLACK POWDER and SABOTS that he did not need to CLEAN the bore or GREASE the sabots. The poor guy shot over 20 or more sabots with out cleaning the bore, not to menchen the BLOOD and broken ram rod . After I cleaned it and greased the sabots ,it went much better . I have had sabot that go right down with out grease, I cant remember whos they were . I have been using HORADADY (i think they are horaday) green sabots abag of 50 ,them I buy 44mag bullets to load in to the sabots. Its good to know I am not the only SMOOKE POLE guy here on MF.com . I hope we can have a BP section like we have for other type firearms , mybe the big guys in charge will hook it up for us one day. KNUGE KNUGE , WINK WINK say no more no what I mean .
