Ok, so I screwed up my cocking tube while trying to take it off the old receiver part. Where can I get a new on?

I don't think so. I thought there was only one weld on top but I guess there are two. I was following this thread (http://www.militaryfirearm.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=418) and I miss read it or didn't understand where all the welds were. I had 3 on each side where the depressions were and 2 on top. I could not even see the front one on top and never know it was there.

That is pretty well buggered, but I would still try to straighten it. Just make sure that none of the sharp points end up bent back into the tube.

Use something sloid and the correct size to insert into the tube like a deep well socket, then tap all around with a hammer to get the sides straight.

I don't have a problem straightening it out. My Friend's dad works at a machine shop. What about the two holes where the weld ripped off the tube?

The holes should not make any difference so long as there is nothing protruding into the tube for the bolt carrier to bind on.

The G1 and G3 are TOTALLY different rifles. The G1 was the German Army version of the FAL with wood furniture. The G3 is the full auto Army versoion of the HK91 or CETME style rifle.

The HK91 style receivers are named differently depending on who made them.

the are all based on the HK91 pattern and may have names derived fromthe HK91 or G3. for example the Century version is called a CAI3 while the JLD is PTR91.

But what about when I weld the cocking tube to the receiver. Are there holes on the top of the receiver? I'm afraid the holes now in the cocking tube lining up with any holes on top of the reciever? I will be using JLD receivers.
Sorry I am very new to all of this and still learning.

From the pics in this thread (http://www.militaryfirearm.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=625), it looks like there are no holes drilled in the receiver for the cocking tube.

Just try to straighten it out bud, and when you reweld, try not to drop metal into those holes ya made!
Bolt carrier & cocking lever action need to be friction free in the tube and spec in length, that's about it. Mine's not near straight and it drives me crazy but...
The rifle funtions flawlessly and is quite accurate sooo...

First I want to thank you for all your help.

How would you suggest I clean up the face were the cocking tube will butt up against the receiver? It was welded there too so I had to grind it out.

A file should do the job of cleaning up the face where the weld should be.

there are no holes in the top of the reciever for the cocking tube, they were originally spot welded. In my SS receiver I opted for some holes to weld the cocking tube on the sides more because of the thickness of the receiver metal and because I wanted it to be MONKEY STRONG.

I'm at the point where welding in the cocking tube is my last job until completion. I have yet to find any copper big enough for a heatsink. I turned one peice down only to find steel in the middle. Any advice? Also when I tried aluminum, it seemed to weld a bit?

Could you use several pieces of 10g gauge solid copper wire twisted together?

I guess its possible. Where would I get that?

Any place that sells electrical supplies. (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

I went to work on my cocking tube and tried to fix it the best I can. It's completely round now and the bolt carrier seems to slide through it with no problems. I can't test fit it in the receiver yet as I am still waiting on them to come in. What's your opinion. Should I run it?
