There's a shop a few miles from me that runs monthly auctions. They have a CETME up for sale, and I thought you guys might appreciate seeing someone pay big bucks for a Century CETME, albeit with mods.

If the first two rifles have good bolt gap, unground bolt, good cocking tube gap, etc. then they are not out of line on their price. The last guy is just trying to hose someone IMHO.
Personally, after the problems I had in getting mine right, I would not purchase another Cetme unless it came from a forum member that could answer some of the above questions. That always makes the gun worth a little more to me.
Would be interesting to see if any of the three sellers could answer some of the test questions we ask and post when we sell our Cetme's here.
Call me old fashioned, or whatever, but I think they look awkward as hell with a telescopic stock. Kind of like those dogs you see from time to time with big bodies and little heads.

I sent these questions to each of the sellers:
What is this rifles bolt gap?
Has the bolt been ground?
What is the cocking tube gap of this rifle?
Is the stock a HK stock? If so how was the rifle or stock modified to accomodate the stock?
Thanks,
Robert
I'll post any replies I receive.

the first one has 98% bluing though....... Mine's got ZERO!
The second one is special because its a CEMTE, not a Cetme...
The 3rd... if that is HK furniture and not knockoff stuff... its probably worth it as long as everythings in spec. the scope and mount should be replaced IMO, but if the foreend and bipod are HK, they should fetch close to $300 in that shape nowadays... the knockoff POF stuff goes for $150ish.

The 1st one should go for a very high amount... that is the only CETME I have EVER seen that is blued... very rare indeed!! :sailor:
The 3rd one... can you say "buyer beware of the 922r police"??
Plus the comment about buying it a few years ago and never shot?

Idunno, tex...it has the US trigger, so I doubt it had the CAI Black Widow furniture (like mine did, with the spanish trigger), more likely is a redone el chopo...my opinion only...als has CAI MB

-->BINGO. I got lucky with mine. A buddy of mine got one from a buddy of his b4 I could even explain to either of them what BG was...so his bud whas shooting a rifle with zero BG, and apparently said...wow, lotta recoil. 10bux wortha part later, we determin that the bbl prolly nees a repress...sheesh. Too bad too, it is a great bbl and nice welds.

Received replies from the seller of Gunbroker item 6924480 and the Gunrunner auction. Both basically state they don't have the measurements and can't make them.
RE: Question regarding GunBroker.com Item 69244880
Robert,
I bought the rifle new and it is unfired. I don't know what the
measurements are or if the bolt has been ground. The stock is genuine H&K
and it was modified to fit the rifle.

Re: Question About Lot #13 - Century Arms CETME, .308 cal. semi-auto carbine
I don't have any idea about this. I have no knowledge of these kinds of guns and no way to measure them. - Scott
How can you make all these modifications to a gun and not fire it to check function, or at least zero the scope? :533:

They make all those modifications and not fire them to save themselves from lying.
If they took the rifles out, fired them, and they didnt function, now they are in a predicament where they have to lie. If they dont fire them..... they dont have to lie.
AND since a lot of buyers just buy on what looks cool (we've all done it), saying that this rifle is NIB and unfired makes a typical buyer think that that ALWAYS means its in the best shape it can be in.

In Scott's case (the GunRunner), he auctions guns on consignment. He doesn't function test them, clean them, or mess with them in any way. So he isn't speaking as a gun owner selling a gun, just as the auctioneer.

I dont blame any of them typically... dont get me wrong or think Im calling them dishonest. Typically, they are selling on consignment, or just selling someone else's product... like Century... If they test it, and it doesnt pass, then they have to think about ethics... I wouldnt want to know if I were selling a rifle on consignment... If I know, i'm an accessory........

Personally, if it were me, I would run the other way from all three of these guns as they can't or won't answer questions to try and improve their sales position. Not one answered back asking how to do this(BIG RED FLAG to me) or even offered to do measurements.(Another Flag). Being the skeptic that I am, without some form of buyback guarantee from these people, I would pass.
Rather spend a little more for a forum members gun as more than likely it has been corrected and we all know where the seller hangs out.:roflmao:

I bought my CETME from a gentleman on falfiles. The reason I bought it from him was because he had a pretty good rating, 29 pos. Now I know you can't go off of this alone. I did ask him a few questions about it and he answered to the best of his knowledge. I received the rifle and found out about 2 weeks later when I went to fire the rifle, there was a broken shell in the chamber.
I am with you all on buying anymore CETME's from forum members only now. CETME's seem to be somewhat finicky rifles when it comes to getting them working properly but when they do work, they work well. I was lucky enough to get a rifle to fire properly. I paid 500 and come to found out that is high for them (or normal nowadays).
I wish I had found this forum before I bought mine, I lucked out.

when other sorta but not total gun nutty people ask me about CETME's I tell them to pass on them unless they want a project gun. Gun show prices have held around $450 to 600 for the last 6 months.

This is understandable, but why not say so.

In fact one of the sellers has not even replied back (yet).
From the Gun Runner Terms of Sale Page:
"We sell these guns as collectibles only and do not recommend that they be fired."
I'm sorry. No gun store I ever bought from had this one on the wall! That statement should be mandatory with every weapon he has listed. It should not rely upon trusting bidders going to that Terms & Conditions page and divining it from the body of his text.
Regarding the fellow who sold a member here a gun with a broken shell still in the chamber, he should be called out on the forum where he listed it. I bought once from a fellow who was highly regarded and he hosed me. Since then, I'm a bit touchy about people who waive their responsibility to their fellow man. How do these people sleep at night?! It's that laissez faire attitude that has this country in the state it's in. :1106:
