I made my initial test run of 7.5 X 55 K-31 Swiss out of new .284 Win. brass and it went fantastic.
Initial sizing was tight and getting the dies set differently than instructed to get the die and press to cam over took a little adjustment.
I used Sierra bullets and Hodgdon BL-C2 powder and one shot load shot extemely well. I am very pleased. And the recoil was surprisingly comfortable and even after 50 rounds with a metal butt plate and arthritic joints I felt fine.
I wanted to see for myself that loading 7.5 X 55 Swiss out of .284 Win. brass could be done (even though I was told by others it could) and that it would be accurate. You can and it was.
The original load data I found on the internet turned out to be for the K-11 and I had to adjust the recommended COL back .2" to get mine to chamber without jamming the bullets in further.
So, all of you K-31 shooters who reload....get busy.:rocker:

Did you use a form die first, or just run the brass through the sizing die and bump the shoulder back a little? Did the case chamber and size easier after it was fire formed? I had not heard this, but it makes sense and is a cheap way to get cases, or a lot cheaper than buying 7.5x55 brass.:fing02:
Does anyone know what the working pressure is for these rifles? I don't think that the lock up is as strong as the Mauser, but I could be wrong.

Where do you find .284 Win brass? It seems scarcer than milsurp 7.62x51.

I picked up a bunch of .284 brass out of the trash can at the range...I think I have about 70 pcs. along with the 100+ pcs of 7mm Mag I found. We get some rich guys who dont reload and just toss their brass....Gotta love them rich people.
One of these days I want to put some grenade spoons in the trash and see what happens at the next club meeting

kid, I die sized them before fire forming them.
After I fired them, cleaned them, and sized them for the second load they sized very nicely.
The shoulder was the first difficulty. That was why I had to go against the recommendations of Reddington on setting the die back 1/4-1/2 turn from touching the shell holder and, rather, kept the die touching the shell holder for cam over.

GW, I bought my bags from Sportsman's Warehouse in Phoenix. However, they are continuously out of them whenever I visited recently.
But, if you can find it...buy...buy...buy becuase the 7.5 X 55 is getting very popular and people have figured out the .284 Win. case thing.

Here is the link to Huntington. They are not cheap but they always have brass and are nice folks.

I see Huntington's selling Graf 7.5 X 55 Swiss cases (100 rounds) for a few dollars more than what they are selling Winchester .285 Win. cases in 50 round lots.
Nice!

YOU GUYS ARE SICK.......I saw a 7.5 rifle at the local show and I thought of this and since I had .284 brass I did the dumb thing and picked it up...dunno if its a k31 or 1911...as I dont know much about these yet. Has a sweet trigger with a long 1st stage though. Pics later as I just got home. I also picked up 2 large MN transit cases for $45...happy easter to me
EDITED: I'm gonna say its a 1911 made in 1918 its been sporterized (just the stock) but it handles alot better than the rifle version IMHO. I'm a shooter not a collector so plz dont flame me

If it is a K-11 and IF you ever intend to load for the rifle let me know and I will lay on you what I have for information.
It seems the K-11 and K-31 have ever-so-slighly differences in chamber sizes. Not much from what I understand but the COL differs on each rifle.
