Hi guys; Yesterday I was taking the old receiver off the trunnion and cocking tube. While looking it over I noticed that it had 2 spot welds on the cocking tube.

I don't recall ever seeing any reference to these in any thing i have read or watched about these builds.

I also think that if they were there from the factory i should put them back into my new build.

I used a pencil grinder and some carbide burrs to get rid of the spot welds and to cut the weld line across the top of the cocking tube. A couple of whacks with a small ball pein hammer on what was left of the original mag well and it fell to the floor. I didn't split it on the bottom like I have seen done. Took about 30min. a few swipes with a file and ready to go back together. I have just a little clean up to do on the shoulder where the cocking tube separated and that's it as far as getting ready for re weld.

Anyway do you guys think I should put the spot welds back on the cocking tube, or just forget it?

Thanks:) ocharry

Really don't think that they are required as I have never done that to any I have built. Maybe we can get one of the guys that are more acquainted with the factory guns to explain why they were there.

I did it with mine, but the seam weld at the cocking tube/receiver connection should be strong enough. I just wanted mine to be extra strong.
