I seem to remember that somebody made repro grenade rings for their CETME by hacking an old CETME FH. does anybody remember how they did this?

I thought about doing something like this too. This is the one thing my Cetme is missing.
How would you attach them...solder??? Would JB weld be strong enough?

The only way I can think of is a bit of a pain, it'd be easier to just install a new hider.
Basically you take an old un-ground one and put it in a lathe. Bore out the inside until it's the a little under size for the outer diameter of your current hider. Then use the parting (?) tool to cut off the grenade rings and solder or whatever to your current hider. Then fit it with some sandpaper or something (or if you are real good on the lathe you'd already have it perfect).
Of course you'd have to put them on from the back so you'd need your current one off anyways. Unless you've got the goobered up Century threads I don't see why my idea would be worth it.
Maybe the other guy's method was actually worth it, but I can't remember it.

Or you could buy a parts kit and replace the triple frame.

I seem to remember it required two donar FH's, a bit of cutting and boring out the insides to the diameter of the ground bit on the triple ring, but I think even just some strong glue would hold it on unless you plan on launching grenades for some reason.

..... unless you plan on launching grenades for some reason.
Is anybody NOT? :D

i meant the grenade rings in front of the triple frame on the barrel, not on the FH itself

I'm wondering if some kind of lock washers or something might work. There's got to be something close. It wouldn't have to be exact (though close in looks) since it wouldn't be functional anyway.

Well, I bought a new triple-frame for my G3-clone, because I really do plan to launch (blue practise) grenades off mine! So, no, not just for display - fully functional :D

What about G3 rings? I need some for my SAR8. Would they be the same as CETME rings?

Yup.

Do I need to use G3 or Cetme FH rings?

I would use G3 rings because G3 triple frames are easier to come by than the CETME ones.
They look virtually the same.

Whoops, I was thinking of the wrong set of rings. :o
But, the rings on the flash hider should be the same diameter, right? So you could still do what I said and just fix them to the triple frame.
If you've got some solder skills replacing the triple frame would undoubtedly be easier.
