A LITTLE TEXAS HISTORY AND A FEW OTHER ITEMS.
Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union . (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)
We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action since the president elect won the election. We'll miss you too.
Here is what can happen:
#1: president elect becomes President of the United States , Texas immediately secedes from the Union
.
#2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas .
So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?
1. NASA is just south of Houston , Texas . We will control the space industry.
2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States .
3. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it. The term "Don't mess with Texas ," will take on a whole new meaning.
4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that.
5. Natural Gas - again we have all we need and it's too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them warm....
6. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications--small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
7. Medical Care - We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. Dallas has some of the best hospitals in the United States .
8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: University of Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University of North Texas ), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.
9. We have a ready supply of workers. We could just open the border when we need some more.
10. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.
12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food.
This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.
Now to the rest of the United States under the new President elect:
Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President elect will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.
You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications.
You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since the new presedent elect has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.
Signed,
The People of Texas (signed)

True, but last time we tried that the Republican Federal government declared war and invaded.
And what happens when the capitol city of Texas secedes from the state?

Don't forget that Texas has its own self-sufficient electric power grid. You folks do not buy electricity from the other three grids, nor do your utilities sell electricity to them.

And our first act of Texas National Parliament should be to ban the female pant suit!!
Born and raised and still a Texan, I have a big wood cutout of Texas plastered on my desk here at the office in Iowa, it is the 1st thing you see when you come in my office. I have always kept my Texas drivers license, no matter how many places/states I have been stationed in. And when my time is up the Army gets to pay for that one last move..... BACK TO TEXAS.
Perhaps Planning has it right, maybe America needs some more change.

i agree welfare out the door, in my experience as a salesman it is for ppl who refuse to work or cant afford a child but have 10 of them and the government gets to take care of them so they can become tomorrows gangsters. i have been poor all my life but i have NEVER accepted welfare of any kind... also i blow all my extra monies on toys like M4s and Saiga12s and thats a personal problem....

Ron, I imagine Texas thinks it can sceede but after accepting readmittion after reconstruction, and involvement in a war that was fought over the lack of options for states to sceede, it aint going to happen any time soon I imagine.
I did love when Texas and California both complained that they took big hits from the last brac commission, but you illistrated that Texas does have lots of military installations almost more than other states, thus more cuts will come there too.
I live some where also that has plenty of resources and such, but would rather see that we all work to make this entire country a better place to live, rather than think about historically proven unsavory options, That said though Texas is a good place to live.
Now as for BBQ comments, I will defend BBQ where I am from, but how you eat our slow smoked beef, pork and other foods, its all good I think. I never thought the mustard carolina sauces would be good untill I tried them, different but all good.

You can get edible BBQ here in FL, but you can't get good, TX-style brisket, nor the right-tasting sauce to go with it.
One of the BBQ chains here has what they call brisket, but, I've never seen a ROUND brisket before, one day, I'll get PO'd and rat them out to the state. It's just some cut of roast... lots of restaurants here recently got zapped for selling "grouper" at premium prices, and serving something else.

You won't get away that easy...
TX isn't know fer its sauerkraut and schnitzel, izzit? I do like a bbq brisket, mebbe even better than pulled pork, but I gotsta have my access to pig, potatoes, and kraut.
I suspect in the secession senario, you'd be fighting the Mex drug cartels in Laredo, etc more than the upper 49.

Then there is all the great Czech food around here, too! Not to mention great Tex-Mex and my fiancee knows ALL the best Vietnamese places in Houston.

My maternal grandparents are buried in Yoakum <quite the name for a TX town in the middle of nowhere> my Grandfather having croaked in '64, and my Grandmother in the 80's... I was amazed at the size of the graveyard in the middle of nowhere... and how many of the names are what I'd call "Slavic" or Eastern Euro in nature, lot's and lot's of "ski's" and "sky's" and "wicz's" and so forth.... from 150 plus years before.... very touching to think what they had to go thru, JUST TO GET TO YOAKUM, and what they endured, just to live/die there.
We all stopped at the local Dairy Queen for cokes, etc., after my Grandmother's burial, and even though my grandparents had departed there in, what, maybe the 1930's, there was her obituary taped down to the counter. My mom was a teen during WW2, so 1930's is probably accurate, so 50 years later, still looking out after their own. Most impressive.

The bad part about succeeding from the union for Texas, would be that the minute you did it, the Federal government would pull out all of their fixed assets, employees, and would immediately cease all import or export of everything. You can bet they would control that border harder than any they currently have.
