Last week I saw an ad in the paper for the grand opening of Sportsmans Warehouse in Las Vegas. I've not heard of them, but the ad mentioned reloading supplies and had a map. The map was only five miles off and I finally found the store. It's a smaller version of BassPro without the boats and a more complete gun section. I got a pound of gunpowder for $10 less than I paid at a local gun store. I haven't priced primers for while. $28 sper 1000 seemed high to me, but I haven't checked around. Not a bad store from what I saw. I'll be going back now that I know it's there and powder is reasonable.

We have one about 5 miles from my home. Not bad. Decent stock. Reasonable prices. I don't care about the fishing and archery stuff but they do pretty good in the gun department.

I bought a Bushmaster AR there about a year ago. $800 not bad. I missed the sale they had the previous week and paid $50 more than I had to.

I prefer Academy for anything that is not actual Guns. But Sportsmans has a great gun lineup, pistols in particular, and they will acutally help you, unlike Cabelas where they have 2 guys working the gun counter and 20 people looking. They have a good selection of reloading components here too..... though the selection is rapidly dwindling lately.

I've been checking on primers, the prices at SW are in line especially considereing that sellers are charging $10 - $20 for hazmat fees. That's if they have any at all. I see a return trip coming up.

+1 to SW....the one in Round Rock is pretty good in the stocking of guns and employees....plus they know what they are talking about.

Thanks for the heads-up - I'll check them out soon in RR. Though Cabella's has bought a portion of my loyalty with their VISA rewards programme.

They have one too.

Uh-oh .... another loaded credit-card in my cordite-stained hands could be very dangerous! :2pistol:

I'd go SW over Cabelas in Buda ANY day! Cabelas is kinda neat to walk around, but trying to get any kind of service there is an awful experience.... that and the fact that the yahoos working the gun counter are less knowledgable that the typical Walmart gun counter worker turn me off to them.

I like MOST of the guys at SW... in fact a good friend of mine is working there right now. There is one guy who rubs me the wrong way. he's a major know-it-all at the pistol counter who basically scoffs at anything you ask to look at and handle if its not a 1911. Then tries to critique everything about how you handle/hold a gun............ But those types are the kind you deal with at a gunshop of any kind I guess. In his defense, he IS knowledgeable about the other pistols, but he'll describe "features" of the other pistols as if they are inferior to the fabulous 1911 design.

One guy there was the main reason I got into reloading. he's a bigger guy with a moustache, and he's pretty sharp with reloading. I went in looking for a decet starter kit, and he set me up with EVERYTHING I needed to load for 3 or 4 different calibers, and hooked me up with a good deal too.

Much friendlier folks is the basic jist of my experience.... I pass on cabelas now, unless its to pick up some Black Hills ammo or something that SW doesn't carry.
